WHY DID THEY CANCEL IT!?!?!?

y did they cancel the show?!?!??! it was a great show very funny!!! especially ghandi!

reply

I heard that Ghandi's daughter sued the makers of the show. Apparently it's blasphemy towards Ghandi and his greatness. I'm not patronizing or anything. Anyway, they're clones and everything so why would they be exactly the way they were in their time? I don't understand myself why they cancelled it and much worse TV shows are left on air but I guess the fact that it's too contraversial makes sense.

reply

Thats an excuse if anyone made the claim seriously. I'm sure Ghandi wouldn't have appeared if a second season had been produced, but I doubt a lawsuit had anything to do with its demise. Rather I think it was a case of MTV having no faith in its animated lineup and deciding to dump it for cheaper reality type programming. Ratings may also have played a role as well.

reply

I suppose that was a bit controversial, but there are several other people who COULD have sued over their relatives' portrayals on that show, but didn't. And maybe (if only in my dreams) it would have survived on HBO or something. They have all sorts of controversial stuff on there. Then again, cartoons aren't really their cup of tea.

Whats up people? I love Clone High, I just bought the DVD from a guy on Ebay for around $ 8. But to answer the question about why it was canceled; I can't, but I know it was not canceled due to a lawsuit from Ghandi's family, or anyone else's family. For one, Ghandi's family is located in Britain, India and the United States. The guardians of his estate live in India and have no copyright or likeness rights in the US. Even if they did, their father Ghandi was a public figure and is not subjected to privacy laws or any other laws that would prevent MTV from using a "clone" in their show. Can you people tell that I'm legally inclined? I wish MTV would bring Clone High back, but probably not in our lifetimes.

reply

if they made another season of the show, it wouldn't be as great without ghandi, but it still would have been hilarious. i believe that when they were still hoping for a second season they thought up ideas like sending him to summer camp, or having him die in some hilarious manner.

reply

The reason why the show was cancelled was due to leagal costs. Each character in the show required a team of lawyers and it became to expensive to continue producing. I would know this since I asked the creators.

Why did they cancel it? Uh, it's MTV we're talking about. You figure it out.

Clone High was the best thing to happen to MTV... EVER!!! I'm very surprised it didn't garner top ratings. It's better than that Pimp My Ride bullcrap.

What makes Zeus, or Hades, or Poseidon, or a host of thousand other gods less real than yours?

reply

I agree that it's unlikely that a team of lawyers sorted through legal work for every character. Joan of Arc, Ghengis Khan, etc. have no estate, to speak of. That aside, there's a legal precident for parodies to get out of hot water. But on a PR level, MTV may have opted out to avoid bad press and possible boycotting.

On the other hand, isn't it status quo for clever animated shows to go off the air after a season?

reply

I currently work with the creative consultant who worked on clone high, basically it is true that the series were cancelled due to the Ghandi character. An asian civil rights group had basically called on a boycott in asian countries of mtv if the show was not pulled off. That and partially because the ratings weren't hot enough for the network to sit and rework or deal with the protest. Ironically Clone High was never shown in an asian country.

reply

well actually, it was shown here in Thailand just last couple of months ago on cable but not throught the local MTV station. the Indian Population is one of the largest minorities in Thailand i'm sure they would have protested, but nope, nothing on the news so far about the Ghandi portrayed in Clone High... just to clear up any misunderstandings.

reply

Nonsense. The show was cancelled because it sucked. Laugh free, and the ratings reflected that.

reply

What do you mean "laugh free"?

It's genuinely one of the very few shows that are absolutely hilarious.

reply

Seeing as a buddy of mine's father worked on the show, I'll tell you (Don Gauthier, look for him in the credits). People were complaining about Ghandi's party-going ways and threatened to sue MTV and the creators if they didn't cancel the show.

That's why, they were being sued.

so...famous people cant have fun!?!

reply

because the people that worshiped ghandi thought it was very offensive even though they didnt get the show they heard about it in the news

reply

Honestly,

There are more people that are more deserving of a lawsuit than the creators of this fine show. I understand that some may have found some things offensive but it was all in good fun. There are so many semi-offensive parodies out there...

heh i loved it. "you noe wats going to make u feel better...MAKEOVER!!! makeover makeover makeover makeover makeover MAKEOVER 4 u and MMMmmeeee."

What i find the most ironic, is that the followers of ghandi, the guy who was famous for passive resistance SUED them? a BOYCOTT? If they even followed ghandi's way they would sit there and do nothing. And its not like thier actions stopped the suffering, in fact for those of us who love(d) the show, we suffer not knowing how it all ends! and not being able to watch it!. THANKS FOR MAKING US SUFFER!!

reply

A boycott is passive resistance.

after reading this title, i almost cried!! I didn't know they cancelled it! i just thought they went off air again. Me, my brother, and my cousins used to watch this show like years ago! then they went off air. BUT THEN THEY CAME ON AGAIN. bUT JUST TODAY I REALIZED IT'S NOT ON! I WENT ON THE CLONE HIGH WEBSITE AND IT SAID IT WAS ON TELETOON AT 10:30 ON SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS, BUT IT MUST HAVE BEEN AN OLD WEBSITE, CUZ I CHECKED THE GUIDE ON MY TV AND IT WASNT ON AT ALL!! WHEN THE SHOW CAME BACK ON AIR AFTER IT WENT OFF, IT WAS ON 11:30 ON FRIDAYS ON TELETOON. I EVEN WATCHED THEM! BUT SINCE IT WAS ON AT 11:30 ON FRIDAYS I HARDLY WATCHED IT. BUT WE WERETALKING ABOUT IT IN CLASS(WHICH ONLY 3 PPL IN MY CLASS WATCHED IT!!) I WANTED TO WATCH IT. BUT IT'S NOT ON ANYWHERE! SO IM HOPING THAT IT DIDNT GET CANCELLED AND THAT IT JUST WENT OFF AIR AGAIN & will come back OR BECAUSE THEY'RE MAKING A NEW SEASON!! HOPIN, AND WISHIN AND DREAMIN AND PRAYIN!!
I FRIEKEN LOVE THIS SHOOOWWWWWW!!!!!! COME BACK ON!!!!

Sheesh.

the bastard show Punk'd must have been way to good to keep on the shelf and thus Clone High, the little Canadian show that could was cancelled.

I still remember the hurt when Punk'd came on in Clone High's time spot

reply

Well you can actually download the last 5 episodes of the season on p2p and the ADD episode if want to know how it ends.

reply

These five episodes you speak of... do they take place after the prom? Cause considering that fact that the season finale ended on a cliffhanger, we don't know, and will never know, how it ended.

Maybe this whole thing can turn into a family guy thing. If enough people buy the dvd set, and the producers see that there's an audience still out there for this show, they'll bring it back.

Then again, I'm still hoping for that to happen with Undergrads and Futurama.

reply

I'm sure they were not talking about episodes that take place after prom. If you want that, come anticipate it over at my site: http://www.lucasstyle.com/MHCH/

But anyways, it doesn't look like it will ever come back. Not with that whole 6 people in India offended by the show they know nothing about.

On the other hand, Futurama is most likely going to come back, at least first in DVD form, so thank God for that.

reply

the americans did not have the last 5 episodes shown, while canada did.

reply

Big news, angellic demon! Futurama IS being brought back!

reply

i just posted about this on another message, but....my brother created clone high, so i can put an end to this debate. the gandhi stuff is TRUE. the end.

so maurice here is sayign that he IS Christa Miller right? Kate O'Brien from Drew Carey and Cleo on Clone High? Cuz i think it was HER brother that created the show and i don't remember seeing any long lost siblings in that family tree. Then again, what do i know...I just find it kinda funny that everyone in this forum seems to be working for the show or knows someone who does.

I just wanna know though Christa, why didn't you just say YOU were ON the show? Don't need to use your bro as a claim to fame...You're much more successful I'd think.

reply

Kate is married to the creators or producer... I think its the producer. Can't remember off hand.

Anyways, yeah, not her brother, her husband.

reply

wellll it was allways going to be contraversal, i mean it is making fun of historical figures, but i allways thought their version of jesus was great, as a shallow homeboy type, and van gogh (i think its that one, fine art isnt my speciality) as the emotionally troubled teen

reply

Christa Miller is married to Bill lawrence, one of the shows creator, and creator of scrubs. Hence hald the cast of scrubs is on the show.

reply

especially ghandi!

hmm how ironic, lol

Yeah, some of the people were right - the show caused massive outrage in India and had to be pulled for this reason.

MTV apologises for its Gandhi spoof

Press Trust of India
Posted online: Friday, January 31, 2003 at 1924 hours IST

New Delhi, January 31: Bowing to country-wide criticism of its humiliating depiction of Mahatma Gandhi in an animated show, MTV US on Friday tendered an unconditional apology to the people of India and the memory of the Father of the Nation.

"MTV US apologises if we have offended the people of India and the memory of Mahatma Gandhi. We have the utmost respect for Gandhi and all that he represents as a revered Indian leader and one of the most important figures in world history," the popular music channel said in statement in the Capital.

It said Clone High, its controversial series which shows Gandhi's animated clone sporting ear rings, was created for an American audience and there were no plans to air it on any other MTV channel outside the United States. "The animated show parodies a number of important historical figures from around the world, including the United States, where this form of comedy is common.

"We recognise and respect that various cultures may view this programming differently, and we regret any offence taken by the content in the show," the release added.

that just goes to show that people are idiots and cant understand that a cartoon is just a cartoon and to change the channel

reply

If all of this is true...wouldn't they just cancel it in India? Instead of canceling it all together? Besides, Undergrads was another good show that got canceled. MTV just doesnt know when it has a good thing. We lose clone high and undergrads, and get Punk'd & a bunch of crappy date shows

reply

I'd literally rather chop my dick off than watch 3 or 4 hours of "My Sweet Sixteen"/"Date My Mom"/"Laguna Beach." Bring back "3-South," "Clone High" and "Undergrads," MTV, you slut *beep* network!

reply

It wasn't even airing in India.... there were just protests. You know the correct thing to do always is to judge before you see something.

But the network will look at the ratings it got, which was a horrible idea to put it on Friday nights when their core demographics were out partying, they would see it as a poor show. Which we all know is quite the opposite. It should have been on [adult swim] instead of MTV... or some other network to fund the other half of the show. We'll never see it on [adult swim] because Viacom doesn't want to give its shows, even if they don't like them anymore, to other networks.

reply

I think it would be an awesome idea to have a channel like Adult Swim or Comedy Central (Heck, maybe even G4) get the rights to this show and begin airing it. On one of those channels, it would probably get great ratings, and maybe even revive it for a second season.

Doubtful and improbable, but a cool thought nonetheless.

reply

It was actually on Tuesday nights I think. (Or was it Monday or Wednesday...)

Well it wasn't friday I can assure you of that!!

reply

It was Monday nights at 10pm.

reply

that's right! ::sniff::

reply

I agree. I think another channel should by the rights to air this show. I loved it.

reply

it was on at 11:30 on fridays on teletoon. it was here in ottawa. at least. which is stupid. thats a terrible time fo a show like that.

reply

Yeah, I know. I'm in ottawa too, and I always wondered why the best shows were always shown really late.
