Is 'The Actor' gay?

While watching this movie, several things made me wonder if "The Actor" was gay, which might explain his trouble performing romantic and sexual scenes with "The Actress". I actually expected this to become a revelation during the movie, but that didn't happen, or if it did, I missed it. Did anyone else think the film implied that "The Actor" might be gay?

Examples:
1. "The Actor" can't get romantic with "The Actress", but loves to "shake his ass" for the film crew (mostly men) on set.
2. He seems to have an obsession with penis size, choosing to use the largest fake penis.
3. He only manages to pull off the important sex scene when the sex is changed to anal sex.

P.S. Please no nasty comments about my message containing gay stereotyping. My point is that I thought the film was implying that "The Actor" was gay, and the way to do that is to use hints that the movie viewer would perceive as "ways a gay guy would act", which are of course stereotypes to some extent.

You just can't hold him very long...

I don't think so, because at one point the actress says something like, "he paws me between takes, he doesn't respect me."

I think he's just nervous and gets past it like any guy (myself included) would, act like an ass in front of people.

Regarding your concern with stereotypes, Don't worry. Stereotypes had to come from somewhere, they wouldn't be stereotypes unless they were generally true.

You know, when I first saw the title of your thread, at first I thought, pullleeeeeaze...but, after reading each of your points, it makes a lot of sense. I didn't get that sense while watching the movie, though.

BTW, I'm gay and I find your post to be completely non-offensive. I agree with the other poster, just express yourself without worry.

1. "The Actor" can't get romantic with "The Actress" because they hate each other (that's the point of the whole movie!)

2. I guess some heterosexual men happen to worry about their penis size too (I don't think it's a gay privilege).

3. Your most relevant point, but again I think some heterosexual men like to have (or would like to have) anal intercourse with women.

THe Actor says that just before (or after) getting the fake penis; "in the first time a male tuched my penis" or something similar. Hence NO

I think doing the scene as anal meant, of course, the actors would not have to face each other and may have facilitated it easier.

I have read that filming love/sex scenes is even awkward for heterosexual actors who are attracted to each other. It is completely choreographed and you have all the lights, film crew and a director barking orders. That would be definite mood killer for me.

The problem with stereotypes is they may come from somewhere but they certainly do not apply to all. I remember someone telling me that there were no gay men in their neighborhood because there was no lisping effeminate men around. Huh?

reply

I do not think the actor is gay, because if he is gay, i dun think he'd even think about acting intimate scenes with the actress. It's just like asking a straight guy to kiss another guy, Hell it's not gonna happen.

IMHO, I think the actor is just nervous and not ready, hence the way he behave in such manner.

errr, you might want to rethink that, esp in light of actors like rock hudson who have done many 'love scenes' with women.

and straight actors have kissed other actors if the role called for it....

Maybe, although when the director is giving him a pep talk after the failed penis fitting, The Actor is complaining about feeling lousy and says "A man has touched my cock twice. I'm not used to it!"

reply

I'd say it's highly unlikely given the amount of sexual tension they play between him and the (female) director.
