How Can Quake be so bad rated by officials?

as i look at these comments, it seems to be a very nice game however, all official ratings i find is "dont buy", and the game got cheap really quick, why? here in Denmark, in the magazine "Game Reactor" it got poorly rated, is this a campain to see how many reads the ratings? what is it rated by officials in other countries?

reply

Here in England i believe its rated Pretty High, around the 80/100 mark i believe, maybe a bit higher or lower, in the States i think its in the 80s aswell. I personally think its a really good FPS, better than the Halo series by miles, using the halo series because fanboys compare everything to that.

Well in Mexico got pretty high rated, i think it's a great game, better than Halo, for sure, more original too, maybe not as great as some people expected, but really really nice... By the way, better try it yourself and see how good it is, despite of the ratings.

Maybe Denmark has different standards than the other countries in which it was rated high. Maybe its an anti-violent videogames thing. Maybe its the same thing that made people over there hate star trek (spawning the Star Wreck spoofs eventually. It's explained on the star wreck website). I don't know. I just know that it did get cheap really quick, usually it can take years for a price to drop that much. I found it for $20 less than the starting price months after it was released while I got HL2: GOTY only recently and I didn't even get the modding guide, strategy guide, or the t-shirt with it (which is what it originally came with).

A government is a group of people usually, notably, ungoverned.

Perhaps it is rated bad because of all the bugs, the game tends to crash quite often for me.

reply

Maybe the ones who rated it badly puked before they finished it, cos I damn well nearly fainted when I played this game at my mates house today. First he treated me to the bit where kane gets turned into one of the strogg (nearly) and then I played the level called medical something where i saw armless legless torsos with thier heads in pipes. WHAT THE *beep* DOES THAT ACHIEVE YOU MOTHER *beep* ALIENS?!! This raised the bar for what I call sick, and believe me I have seen some pretty sick *beep*

Game crashing?

Download the latest patch for the game, if you're using an X-Fi soundcard, get the latest drivers, get latest videocard drivers...

I have yet to have problems with this game, I've never experienced any crashes or bugs.

I have the PC version, and it is stable, never crashed on me, and the load times are pretty fast. The graphics are nice and so is the sound, but the only deal is that it all gets boring. The game is way too long and it doesn't really grip you as Doom3 did or F.E.A.R.

Every time I see someone complain about a game being unstable, crashing, and having bugs, they usually complain that it's the game that's a piece of crap... Those are the kind of people that console systems are made for.

I saw some guy give F.E.A.R. a 1/10 on here, because it wouldn't run on his POS old computer.

Read the bottom of the game's box, it clearly states what you need to run the game.

If any of you would like to see quake crash then do some testing, like spawning some monsters while onboard the hannibal and also have the notarget code active so that the monsters wont attack you, then I guarante you that the game will crash. But yes otherwise the game was solid and there were no other crashes

(it is a great game tho)

All the complaints ive seen are about it not being innovative, which I think is a load of crap. The single player was great, sure, it didnt do anything new, but it felt amazing to me, and I just got done with FEAR and Half Life 2 before that.

on the "Gamespot" website, the game received a 6.6/10 (fair) for the XBOX 360 and an 8.0/10 (great) for the PC. the XBOX 360 version of the game is a straight port from the PC version. from what i hear the PC version is highly regarded. the reason for the low rating for the XBOX 360 version is stated as poor framerate/graphical issues in the single player and multiplayer among other things. from what i have read id/Raven rushed a quick port from the PC version, so that they could capitalize on an XBOX 360 launch title. i own Quake 4 for the 360 and i don't find the problems in the game to be any worse then problems in other games that have received much higher ratings. to put it simply, i enjoy the game. in hindsight, if id/Raven had taken a few more months to polish the 360 version of the game, they probably could have produced an even better product (for both the consumers and the critics).

I agree with ghostfackillh. I have Quake 4 on both the PC and 360 and I did not experience any of the slowdown issues that people said were in the 360 version. The game ran at 60 fps about 75% of the time, and the other 25% wasn't any worse than the Xbox version of Doom 3. I get the impression that they aren't playing the same Quake 4 that I played.

Duke Nukem Forever will be done soon. Trust me.
