Terrible Graphics

Hmmn...

Is anyone else having a problem with getting this game to work (specifically graphically) with a modern PC?

I'm seeing the game looking like System Shock 2 (whilst its a terrific game it is old) and no matter what I do it looks very poor and occasionally I have some areas that are simply jet black everywhere. I've contacted Activision on this and whilst I haven't had a response yet there are similar queries which have. It seems that the game engine gets a bit confused with pc components that are either too powerful for it to detect or are more advanced that it can recognise.

I'm thinking that despite having a Q6600 running at 2.4GHz (yes I've ticked the in game multicore cpu box) the game enginge doesn't pick up on this, I'm wondering if I should unlock my clock multiplier. My graphics card is a 512MB ATI 4870 (current drivers for this and all components plus the latest patch for the game) and running XP (ain't got no Vista here!).

Its all part of a £2k system I built last year and I'm a bit hacked off that a 2005 game doesn't let me max it out - I can play Crysis on quite high settings as long as I don't max out the resolution so I'm comfortable with the capability of the rig
