Are you people on drugs ???

This is the most god awful film i have seen in years. if someone would have told me that you could make a POS with billy bob and morgan freeman in it, i wouldn't have believed it. i also wouldn't have believed that anyone could make a movie with billy bob with charisma of a tree trunk. this film has so many art-house cliches i wanna puke on director's face who also is responsible for such crimes against humanity as charlie's angels and super mario brothers. he says it took him 20 years to write this crap, i think he needed 200.

one of the supporters of the film who also wrote the story summary says: I can well understand why this misses the mark for so many people. A lack of the dramatics, no "twist" like "The Life of David Gale"

... I see that she has taken upon the herculean task to see the worst films in history of cinema.

reply

I dunno... it got better as it went on.

At the beginning with the guy who wanted him to do the job, and the subway station 'which path to take' section was crappy, but it got better and better.
Very thought provoking, i think it's unfair to call it a piece of s*%t.

I kinda think Thornotn's lack of personality worked well too, it was obviously a decision he made and that was agreed on by all, it wasn't just bad acting, and it worked for me.

I knew all along that he'd end up taking a bullet for Abner, but i kinda wanted it to happen too, because i wanted Manuel to be able to get on with his life, i liked him. I felt connection with all the characters except Freeman who didn't really do anything for me in this film.

reply

Yes.
But I havent seen this movie yet....is it really that awful?

reply

No, its a brilliant character study and I found Thorntons low-key, restrained style of acting particularly appropriate for this film. I am quite certain this was entirely intentional from Thornton for this film! It really worked for me, its well worth a viewing!

reply

The reason that Billy Bob Thornton had the seeming charisma of a treetrunk is because that is how the character was written. The movie may not match up to some of your favorite films,(Harry Potter being undoubtedly at the top of your list)perhaps it's possible that the movie just didn't strike a chord with you personally. Though I'll admit the film wasn't the finest piece of cinematic art I've experienced, your ranting, immature review was both brutal and pathetic(not to mention unimaginative.)And no, I'm not "on drugs",but you obviously are to think that such a cliche insult would be even remotly witty. And POS??? c'mon, how old are you??????

reply

I thought this was a good movie. Very touching and moving. The theme of the movie is something all of us can learn from.

reply

What theme is that?
That if you murder someone, you should stalk down and seduce members of their family afterwards?

reply

first of all if you had actually watched the movie dude instead of taking the crust off your pb&j instead of your mother doing it you would have seen that she seduced him, his only mistake was letting it happen. If you didn't like the movie then it was not your thing but to say a whole paragraph about how much you hated like the starter of the thread shows you really liked it but needed time to bitch while doing your homework. It had a theme about how everyone handles life depending on thier situation whiter it is raising a kid, or being seen as something your not like miles and the so called rich girl who said the only reason she lived in the house was out of charity of somebody who like her mothers music who with no furniture in the house showed they were not as well off as the other 50 rich kids who went to the same place to dance. but the mom trying to raise her son and Thornton's character who didn't believe he needed to be out of jail in the first place which was the opening scene, so unless your IQ is below 80 you can clearly see he wasn't stalking her. When you make a commit ,,get your facts straight dude.or go watch teletubbies so the plot wont throw you off. I tend to ramble but if you know what i mean.

reply

I really liked the part about how the director being part of films like Super Mario Bros. somehow invalidates this movie. I guess we should throw everything Elia Kazan ever did in the garbage because he was part of a studio trainwreck like Sea of Grass.

reply

You clearly missied all the symbolism, yes the movie was not full of entertaining scenes, but the movie on an entire scale was well put together.

IT ALL HAPPENED SO FAST

My God, I wish imdb could design a filter that would prevent anencephalic cretins like prashin007 from posting. The atrocious grammar and spelling is bad enough, but even if it was good this drivel would still be vacuous at best. If anyone is on drugs, it had better be him, because I would hate to think that anyone would think like that without being on drugs.

reply

The movie was flat, bad and boring.

It's watchable, but not again. 3/10 stars. If your channel surfing and you see it, watch it. If not, dont go looking for it.

reply

exactly my words mate! i told my girlfriend, hey lets see this one cause i never saw a bad movie with Morgan Freeman!!!? :) well now i have!! :(
this movie was so full of misplaced sentiments that i started shouting at the monitor at one point! Billy bobs character was just not believable! pure and simple. it was irritating almost from beginning till end. he is suppose to be this humble soul who repents his sins and subconsciously is driven towards receiving the forgiveness of his victims sister! but for a guy who couldn't care weather he lives and dies (at least he carries himself as if he is already dead) he seems much to self-conscious of the whole process. he is manipulating the sister to give him forgiveness, and i don't think that was the intention of the film director.

i gave this film 1 star on IMDB just to pull it back down where it belongs!

reply

Not on drugs, but even though not perfect, I don't see why this movie gets such approbation. I thought Billy-Bob played it perfectly. Morgan's performance was competent, but he could have phoned it in, the character was so light. Holly Hunter's character was equally 2 dimensional. Kirsten Dunst was totally miscast, her attempt to get down with the homies was excruciating. That said, the central theme of the film made it watchable and thought provoking. I read that the director spent 20yrs writing the script, so it was a little self-indulgent. Better development of the other main characters and cutting the Kirsten Dunst character completely would have made this film. I give it 6/10, mainly because of Billy-Bob's rivetting performance.

reply

I take intelligently done films are not to your liking?

reply

morgan freeman stinks in every film role that he is given to because he is black.billy bob thornton had two good roles one false move and the outstanding movie that maade him famous.why are there so many brothers in this montreal locale.i did not see italian people why not...discrimination

reply

You didn't see italian people so it's discrimination?

Please, stop eating paint chips. Home Hardware does not serve free cookie samples.

I think what was good about Kirsten Dunst's pathetic attempts to 'get down with the homies' was that her character actually knew it was pathetic. She was using club shutdown lines for street pickup lines. Neither club pickup lines nor street pickup lines are actually effective in the real world, but are used as a source of gentle playfulness. They are most often used in the real world as caricatures of themselves. Even though their cultures were quite different, they were able to get along. I'm a vanilla white guy who likes classical cello and guitar music and I had no trouble getting along with a friend of mine from NY who works in the music industry with P Diddy.

The boys portrayed in the film that were attending the sermons were boys who didn't quite make it as far as gang banger life, but were pretty typical black boys from the hood. In other words, good guys, just susceptible to making bad decisions from being in the wrong places, at the wrong times, with the wrong peers.

The only thing in this movie that I felt was genuinely crap was when Bob's character has sex with Adele. This was totally unconvincing IMHO. The rest of his character's actions were convincing though, so I just passed it up as yet another stupid hollywood sex scene, like the preposterous one in Titanic.

Morgan stunk in Wanted, but he didn't stink in this. He was playing an unusual character that was behaving in unusual ways that were just beyond the scope of his character's ability. Not Morgan's acting ability.

Overall, I quite liked it. But I've experienced similar situations, that's probably my personal bias.
