THE REAL TWIST **SPOILERS**

I have been reading all the threads and no one seems to have got the REAL twist which makes the film that much better. **SPOILERS**

Ok, some might have guessed that the Hypnosis had something to do with the male cop thus he re-enacted the last three murders. But what do you think of the female cop killing him at the end? Was she hypnotised too to kill him??? Remember the scene in the prison where the serial killer is playing with her lighter? Before she shoots him at the end, she lights the male cops cigarette with that lighter. Then you see the sun shining (the sunshine triggered the male cop to kill his mum also)

NOW IS THAT THE REAL TWIST OR WHAT? THEY WERE BOTH HYPNOTISED!!! SHE CRIES AFTER SHE HAS SHOT HIM, AS IF KNOWING WHAT SHE HAS DONE BUT COULDN'T CONTROL IT. THEN THE OTHER FAT COP DROPS TOO HIS KNEES BECAUSE HE COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT SHE HAD JUST DONE EITHER. THEY CAME THERE TO RESCUE HIM AND HAVE HIM DE-HYPNOTISED SO WHY SHOOT HIM?

Thats the TWIST.

I think it's a great film. Remember so called 'Korean classics' like OLDBOY which also uses hypnosis as it's twist theme came after this ONE. So who inspired who know - huh?

Case closed.

thank you for clearing that up, this was an excelent movie.

I don't think this is the case, though I find this an interesting theory. Here's my thoughts on the REAL twist. My feeling was that Han had actually been through the same thing, in that he had been hyptnotised into killing during the first murder spree. I think that Han didn't actually commit suicide, but Kim killed him and made it look like a suicide so it wouldn't be known that Han had been a murderer. Maybe he even asked her to kill him. This time around, when she finally knew why a cop would be caused to kill, she felt that she had to kill Kang as well.

I think she cries because she now realizes what happened to Han and is devastated by the truth.

That was my thought, though the OP's theory is interesting as well. Who knows, they both work depending on how u decide to interpret it.

Maybe.

But my idea is more consistent.

I think the lady cop was as bored as the rest of us after 105 minutes of nothing and blew away Kang just to end this piece of crap.

"That bastard, Donald Crisp!"

I think OP is wrong. Death of male cop doesn't make sense cause it doesn't fit in Shin "6 victims agenda" and therefore female cop couldn't be hypnotised. Shin was the murderer 10 months ago, he was imprisoned, and now he needed hypnosis to continue his plan- to include others in his motive. The first copycat (the one from disco) did the first 3 killings and then he was caught, so Shin needed another one to hypnotise. That's where male cop gets in. So, he does the other three murders. The second copycat wasn't the copycat, he was just a poor guy with split personality and he didn't kill anybody, he just thought he did. And in the end, female cop kills him 'cause she knows pain, she understands it, she felt it through the death of her lover, and so she killed him to free him from life of pain and darkness. The ultimate motive of this movie is the criticism of abortus, but what's more important is that it gives you many characters who float with dark emotions. That's why it's so impressive, nobody is really normal in this movie, everyone has its demons and its role. Shin was just the extreme one.

there was nothing about why he ended up murdering 6 people, never a single directive raise this ques even in passing ....i think he stopped after murdering his mother ..last one ...

...this is why i think the lighter theory hold...the movie provides inclination toward it...remember the last scene ...when it is shown how he murdered the girl in the apartment ..there is a flask of Shin playing with the ring like played with the lighter(coincidence?)....you decide..
I believe what i wrote in my previous post ...give it a read...

I think you are partially right...when both visited Shin ...he asked haven't you wondered what let Han to suicide. And then when she disregarded the depth of his words...he somewhere used the word superficial... so i think...just to invite her to the his inner world,as he's gonna die soon enough (mention in that seen too)he does it to her and after that i don't think she lights a cigarette with her own lighter and i remember a scene when Kang lighted the cigarette for her(odd?). And the lighter was emphasized throughout the movie.Even in the last seen (odd again?).

about Han : It was a suicide ....i think if the director wanted us to question that...he would have left some clues... but may be i missed something ...

and last victim was Shin's mother i think ....
murderer Shin Hyun....share last name with detective Kang Tae Hyun ...and his mother was a prostitute ...and needn't be one and the story would have been same ...but i think ...this is the only reason why this was done because they were related...not sure who the lady and girl were..by the looks of it some street lady and her doughter he took ..may he mothers old friend...

not sure about all the aspects ...just seen the movie once...and maybe I'm reading too much into it ..or may be it's meant to be a puzzle ..

great movie though .....pace and length doesn't matter ... i think it was done to let us have time to explore all the angles... as they are hidden in plain-sight ..

"murderer Shin Hyun....share last name with detective Kang Tae Hyun"

Hyun isn't their last name. It's part of their first. In Korea they do last names (family names/ surnames) first.

Kang Tae Hyun

Kang= family name
Tae Hyun= his name
They don't have middle names
