insult to Morris Brown College?

Atlanta A & T University is a fictional school created for the film. But Morris Brown College is a real school in Atlanta. I found it very poor judgement to depict a real school as having a corrupt jive-turkey band director and a band with questionable performance merit. Morris Brown College has had more than its share of unfortunate trouble. It certainly does not need any bad public relations of the fictional variety.

How many kids do you think, having seen the real Morris Brown College on film, wrote, called or e-mailed the school to see about getting into their music program? I think that's a pretty positive thing. And how many of those kids contacted the college thinking, "Yeah, I want to go to a school with a jive-turkey band director"? People who build the perceptions of the world based on movie fiction have a very tough life. I'm glad that Morris Brown leadership possessed the wisdom to allow this collaboration to happen.

My bet is that most of the audience assumed Morris Brown College to be fictional like Atlanta A & T College. It is very unusual for institutions to condone negative portrayals of themselves in any medium.

Morris Brown just finished digging its own grave this past weekend by hosting the New Black Panther Party convention. The state should shut them down, and do it in a hurry.

Actually, Morris Brown is a private college like most (if not all) of the historically black colleges.

Good point. Let me rephrase it: The next time Morris Brown begs for their water bill to be forgiven because they can't pay it, the wealthy, tax paying (many of whom are white) citizens of Atlanta should tell them to screw off.

I won't comment on the remarks made about Morris Brown College, but I LOVE the fact that you used "jive-turkey" to describe the band director! Geez, I haven't heard that phrase used in years! But it actually describes the character depiction of "Mr. Wade" to a T!

Chill. It's just a movie, brah!!

Just a movie.

Well I never heard of Morris Brown college (70yr old white guy here lol). But even if I had I would not think anything in this film truly represented the college. Heard of this drum line thing, but really enjoyed the movie. Thought the acting was good - specially Orlando Jones as usual. Watch it every time I come across it.
