Orlando Jones

Say what you want about this movie (considering it is full of mediocre acting, dialogue, and cliches) but Orlando Jones was genuinely good. I'm one of those proud marching band nerds who spent 4 years marching in high school. So, I've known several marching band directors and he really portrayed a passionate director very well. I also have to respect the performance by the section leader, Sean. Sure he got a little full of himself, but he too showed genuine passion. Now, I'm not now, nor have I ever been, a Nick Cannon fan, but I just have to respect the only two actual quality performances in this movie. Any other band nerds agree?

The Dude abides.

Just rewatched this for the first time since time since my original viewing in '02. I think I appreciate it more now. I wasn't in a marching band, but in a youth orchestra, which constituted some of the best times of my life. My conductor was female, but just as dedicated to "one group, one sound" as the Jones character.

Hell yes my brother. Jones gave a solid performance as Dr. Lee. Before I saw Drumline, I only knew Orlando Jones from MADtv, but with this film he proved he could play a serious character with gravitas and dignity.
