Im confused on why Dr. Lee told Devon that rather than making Sean look bad he made himself look like a jackass. Now, I understand that Devon was a smug prick at times, especially when it came to Sean, but he kept time and rhythm with him.
Should he have messed up on purpose? He didn't challenge Sean, Sean was testing all the drummers to force them not to look at their drums but still keep rhythm. I see nothing wrong with Devon being able to do so, but apparently Dr. Lee does.

The reason was because the section leader was supposed to lead the speed of the cadence, and that is why everyone else failed to keep up. When he challenged Devon, Devon started speeding it up and not following the speed of the section leader, which took Sean by surprise and caused him to mess up. That is why the comment was made a few minutes later about how he needed to learn to follow before he could lead.

wrong he didn't speed anything up. he was simply fallowing along until sean couldn't play along

no you're wrong, devon sped it up which is why Sean wasn't able to keep up and thus he dropped his sticks trying to keep up at Devon's pace. Everything MrsGraves said is true it's hilarious how all of this went over your head.

So I'm close to six years late on this one, but I absolutely agree with you. Devon was arrogant and puerile all the way up until the end, but going toe-to-toe with Sean wasn't an indication of being a jerk...especially when Sean was the one initiating the challenge.

There are no stupid comments, just stupid people...

I agree and it came off more like an adult trying to put a kid in his place despite not having any leg to stand on lol
