Kind of cool....

But I couldn't shake the feeling that I was watching a Star Wars moving taking place on a 'Dr. Who' set.

That is exactly what I felt when I saw it for the first time completed. Oh for the joys of the parallel universe where we could afford all the insurance and permit fees to shoot where we wanted to. The prison set was originally planned to be the same location as the bad-guy bunker in MI2. The prisoner scene at the start is how the film was originally supposed to look, ie location for the most part.

Oh well, best to close your eyes and ears when watching, then it might just look the way I originally planned.

Thanks for the kind words...but in short there is no way in hell I would ever make another film like TDR. Tooooooooo much headache, too many bruised egos, too much time investment, and too little sleep.

Thanks,

Dwight

you should have put bossk in this. It pains me to see his character only in the film for only a good 10 seconds in ESB and then 3 seconds in ROTJ. His character is trully the most pure scumful backstabber ever in the books and is my favorite character out of all the Bounty Hunters.

I did actually read The Bounty Hunter book prior to the final script, and it was a case of "past the point of no return". I can honestly say that I have no desire to make another fan film outside of a few CG spaceships. Too much burn out and animosity as a result of TDR.

However, that makes the way free for you to make your own fan film. Best of luck to you if you do. Hopefully it will be less stress than TDR was.

Darn it! I just finished a pet project of putting the film onto DVD myself, straight from the digibetacam master. I also found a tape of test fx, some tv interviews, and I had a stack of photos which I put together as video for a german web review of the film. Coupled with animated menues using the original Lightwave models, it looks quite nice. I even did a commentary before old age makes me forget most of the background stories of the film. It's in PAL format though...

Nope I make absolutely _no_ money off TDR. I put quite a bit of money into it, and so I wanted a DVD to enjoy with all the remaining material I could find in it. Leah McLeod is the woman who played Mara. She is a TV personality in Australia, and doing quite well for herself. Thanks fort the thoughts. I do however, feel TDR failed to reach its intended standard. That is moreso conflicting egos and financial constraints than anything else. Just BTW, a PAL DVD should play on a PC monitor without hassles, other than the region encoding.

Since it's been almost two years since you posted your mention of producing a DVD of "The Dark Redemption" I understand that there's a fair chance you won't see this. However, I have to try because I'd very much like a copy of your DVD. I think it is an important piece of Star Wars history as well as a quite good short film in its own right. The extras you added, especially your commentary, makes it unique. It needs to be preserved and would be a valued part of any serious collection. Please email me at blackhawk[at]knology[dot]net

Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing those extras either
