paintings in hotel rooms.

a long shot here, but could anyone tell me anything about the painting in the british ladys room?

reply

The paintings in the rooms were placed there by Production Designer
Felipe Fernández del Paso. The ones in Nan's room were the most turbulent because she was the most conflicted woman. The one in Eileen's room was dominately green because she's Irish (I'm guessing here), and since she talks of snow, the volcano has snow on it. Felipe may have painted the pictures or purchased them in Mexico.
The volcano is most likely Popocatépetl (commonly referred to as El Popo or Don Goyo). It is an active volcano and the second highest peak in Mexico after the Pico de Orizaba (5,610m). Popocatépetl comes from the Nahuatl words popōca 'it smokes' and tepētl 'mountain', thus Smoking Mountain. Popocatépetl is linked to the Ixtaccíhuatl volcano to the north by the high saddle known as the Paso de Cortés.

Take a trip to Puebla in Mexico, and I'll bet you can find someone that would sell you a painting of El Popo.

I'll live forever--or die trying.

Thanks for the info -- I, too, loved the paintings.
