If you don't like this movie, read this post...

Ok, I'm stunned to see so many people acting shocked over this movie, apparently completely unaware of two important factors, namely that this was an intentional comedy, and secondly, that this is the THIRD film in this satirical series of Brady send-ups.

The first two movies were The Brady Bunch Movie (1995) and A Very Brady Sequel (1996), and both of them were absolutely hilarious, especially for fans of the original show. Many of the original castmembers did cameos.

Anyway, it's a real shame so many people didn't understand what this was, and cried foul (assumedly because they thought this was somehow harming their beloved series, which it really wasn't, of course), because it now appears such negative reviews have completely killed their future plans for additional sequels (God, I was so looking forward to the next one, wherein the family gets shipwrecked on Gilligan's Island!).

So take a breather, folks. This wasn't some insult to the franchise, it was intentionally meant to be a funny parody, fully "approved" by the official Brady powers-that-be.

the other problem is its not same actress and actor.

reply

The other problem, now its 7 years later and I just NOW realized this movie existed.

reply

hell, i'll do u one better. This movie was made SIX YEARS after the one which preceded it.....A Very Brady Sequel should have been the END.

reply

i agree that the sequel was a great ending

reply

the other problem is, it sucked.

reply

Well I kinda figured a lot of people knew that since it went straight to dvd.

reply

It actually didn't go straight to DVD. It aired on ABC first. Going back to the original poster, though, the reason so many people are trashing this movie is because it was so gawdawful. The first two movies were hilarious sendups that satistfied most people who loved the show and most people who hated it. The White House movie was drab and dull without any of the humor of the first two theatrical releases. I doubt the comments made here would have had any influence on whether another movie would be made, but if it did in any small way, I'm grateful. This movie should never have been made.

My daughter and I just watched this movie, fully expecting cheese and awfulness. We got it, in spades. The first movie was a clever parody; the second, slightly less so. This one may have been a parody, but there was NOTHING clever about it. I killed far too many innocent brain cells just watching this drivel. I was shocked that Sofia Vassilieva did such a horrible job in this movie, because I thought she was adorable in the Eloise movies, and was great in Medium. Then again, she didn't have much to work with.

I got A Brady Bunch of Movies Collection and this was in it, including the first 2 Brady Bunch movies and Barry Williams depiction of the Brady Bunch, Growing Up Brady. I even liked Growing Up Brady even though it was more of a drama. I'm 10 minutes into it and after 5, I gave up paying attention. It's playing right now in the background.

I know the problem of this movie. It's not only different kids but the actors are trying to act like the kids in the movie. If they tried to act like the characters from the show, maybe ... Just maybe it'd be decent.

Plus, it doesn't even look like the director tried to copy scenes from the show into this movie at all. That was the greatest things about the first two movies.

It's Saturday night... I'm not wasting tonight trying to finish this movie. I'm going out.

IMDB is nothing but criticism. Expect it.

It doesn't matter how much of this movie was intentional. Intentionally making a terrible movie still means you made a terrible movie. Did it occur to you that maybe people dislike it because, well, it's bad?

reply

I never said this third (and almost certainly final) installment was particularly good. I was addressing very specific complaints that were based on incorrect assumptions.

And regarding the comment about the cast, the "kids" were recast, but the parents were still Gary & Shelly, reprising their roles.

I can't imagine a single person disliking this movie because it was an "insult to the franchise" or didn't live up to the expected quality of Brady movies. I'm pretty sure most people realized this was intended as a parody.

It nonetheless sucks because it's not funny. It's an insulting waste of time and painful to endure. Shelley Long and Gary Cole both reprise their roles, yes, but I'm sure that mostly had to do with a paycheck. I don't know where they found all these new kids, but they're terrible actors and funny-looking in the wrong ways. Seriously, with all the kids who want to be in movies, this is the best they could come up with?

This movie makes the old Brady reunion movies look entertaining by comparison.

It actually started off very funny- the card house scene, Bobby playing hall monitor...

It was when they got to the White House and stared those bizarre song and dance numbers is when I started to cringe. Also, the painting talking to Jan wasn't funny, and was downright creepy.

I'm a Brady fan, and didn't know about this movie until I purchased the 4 pack of Brady movies. I really liked the first two, they were very funny. Growing up Brady was a good TV movie as well.

I agree with the OP that this ruined the Gilligan-Brady mashup sequel. This wasn't the worst movie ever and did have some funny moments, like the broken vase scene. It's a shame the franchise ended with this, though.

I understand that it's a parody, I just didn't find it funny, particularly compared to the first 2 movies.
