What's better Firefly or Battlestar Galactica?

Actually, I don't think they're all that similar (apart from being set in Space, of course). BG is almost a soap opera in space (with action sequences that are well done) while Firefly is more of an action adventure approach involving far fewer characters (with some interesting backstories that mostly never got told). Personally, I prefer Firefly, because, perhaps inevitably, there was a lot more filler in BG (and the ending was a complete cop out).

Its not really a point of "which is better"

They are two very different shows and both have their strong points.

They are not directly comparable.

A lot of people who like one show also like the other show as well, but for different reasons. I absolutely love both shows even though they are as different as night and day.


Firefly I love because the writing and the cast and characters just come together so well. The humor is the humor I absolutely love, not forced comedy like so many sitcoms today but rather the comedy you can find in real life as someone responds in a witty way to a given situation.

Battlestar Galactica is more of a serious drama that tries (and mostly but not always succeeds) to examine deep realworld problems fcing humanity. It forces us to take a look at who we are as a people.
From Politics, Religion, Prejudice, Ethics, How far do you go before becoming the very thing you are fighting against. At what point do you sacrifice your ideals for safety....

All set is a sci-fi setting of Space. BSG has its lighter moments but all in all is very dark. Firefly, while it has it's serious moments, is more campy and fun.

BOTH shows are excellent And even BSG give Homage to Firefly as Serenity herself make a cameo in a shot during the miniseries.

You can see Serenity coming in for a landing through the Dr's Office windows in the first scene set on Caprica.

Firefly is the best show ever ... including better than the new BSG (2004).

The new BSG has two awesome seasons, but then the show deterioates, first slowly but then ever quicker, until the finale thats just awful through and through. The problem is simply that the script authors accumulate so many mysteries but then they cannot manage good explanations to most of them.

And for the record, the original BSG is not much of anything.

Very different shows.

I definitely prefer and thinks Firefly is better. I liked BSG and it was great until season 3, had some good episodes in seasons 3 & 4, but overall they were very lackluster. I hated the finale.

Hamilton cast expected to apologize for expressing concerns. What happened to 1st Amendment?

Its an interesting comparison Firefly benefits from only having 1 season so there was no chance of it crapping out the way BSG did
