language

I left Hungary as a 10 year old but have kept up with language. I missed some of the idioms in this one initially, but got most of it on second viewing. One word that escapes is "madon." It is spoken by the man in the "Levetkozes" song: meg semmi sem teljes/meg madon vagyok. What does the word mean? Is it masculine for madonna? Is he saying they haven't done anything yet?

Incidentally, that entire sequence is great. It begins with Alex and Esther starting their tour--the music begins as a typical sequence, meaning their day is shown in bits and pieces while music plays. But where the typical sequence would have the music play over their frolicking, here the making of the video is intercut with the Alex and Esther tour of the city and their developing relationship. And in addition, the two men watching the video are shown reacting, creating a third narrative. And when the video ends, the two singers step out of their roles to interact with Aksel and the entire story finally returns to Esther's arrival at Tamas' apartment. A really masterful storytelling bit that I use in my scriptwriting class to illustrate both sequence and alternate narration.

Sorry for the lecture. Any help with the translation? Also, "semmiseg" is "trivial" but dictionaries say "nothing" while I would translate it as "something insignificant" though "valami" is more "something." Tom

Thank you--so he is saying "Magam vagyok" or "I am alone." OK, but I thought the correct way of saying it would be "magamba vagyok." Or isn't there a word--magan (accent over the a) that means "I am a loner." Anyway, thanks for the reply. Tom

well its a song so they dont have to be totally gramatically correct eh?

the word maga'ny means loneliness, maga'nyos is lonely

semmiseg can mean trivial as in a response to someone saying thanks and you replying no problem etc however it can also mean nothingness

a semmisegbe bamultam (i stared into the nothingness or more correctly i stared off into space)

i dont remember the context of the song nor the scene (saw it a while back) but még magam vagyok could also mean "I am still myself" - meaning something like i havent changed or whatever...so it is technically correct, even from a grammatical point....
