Religious reasons omitted

Unless I am mistaken, Cromwell acted upon religious convictions and wrote a lot about them. This movie certainly removes nearly all of that. A buddy movie, but not a historical movie. Not a great movie. When they don't want to come close to the historical truth, why don't they just change the names and make it a complete piece of fiction.

also, King Charles had a catholic wife and that upset a lot of Protestants, I believe his son and wife and entire court went to Rome when the civil war was going on?

Charles I's wife, Queen Henrietta-Maria, was born a French Princess and she and her children stayed at the court of Louis XIV, her nephew, during the civil war.
