Ending- confused.

So was everything an illusion? I don't understand.

Did she turn her back on life on the land and choose to sail forever?
Confoozed.

All an illusion... sailed to NZ where Kai lived, gave up on the whole 'round the world thing at the last moment... bad film.

I just rented this. The officials said at the end that she had just "passed through the heads, marking the official end of the 30,000 km journey." So she did finish the around-the-world race. It's kinda hard to hear the announcer in the background saying that.

reply

after having all the illusions and after being at peace with her mom, she wanted to continue sailing so she could enjoy it without having the illusions of others. plus she knew that her and luke were over.

"You're tacky and i hate you."

And what was all that about "check the bilge"?

reply

I had a feeling that Luke was chrating on Georgia with that woman.... Also, am I right when I assume the ghosts were only her personal demons?

reply

I believe that Luke was cheating and she knew it. and her privacy had been violated with him allowing other people to listen to their conversations.

As for the bilge and the barnicles.. this is just me hazzarding a guess. Because the other ship person told her that they had a problem with one of their people killing himself after coming into contact with both the bilge and weird barnicles, I believe that the something the barnicles were giving off was mixing with the mess of the bilge and creating a ill effecting gases of hallucinations. Unlike the man on the other ship, Georgia did defeat her inner demons and went on to the man that would make her happy instead of the one that convention said she choose.

It is an apt ending for this movie in my opinion..Georgina was actually battling with her guilty feeling throughout this movie..terribly depressed deep in mind..feeling guilty thinking she was the cause of her father's accident..and on verge of suicide several times (shot as her mother's ghost persuading her to commit suicide)..only those were here illusions and actually she was battling against her guilty conscience throughout.

The moment she reject the persuasion of her mother to commit suicide (it is georgina who thinks about suicide)by saying to her mother's ghost that "you are not my mother, if you are my mother you cannot tell me to do this," she is free from her guilty conscience which has been haunting her from her childhood...

reply

and moreover it's a film..which is against suicide..giving the message..suicide is not at all an answer to problems which we face in life....

Then the funky little alien-like spiders were her imagination? (she should write horror sci/fi, sailings not her forte...) If I am not mistaking, in the final major assault on her, we saw the spider thingy when she was not there (not from her perspective) which generally leads the audience to believe they actually exist... As well as the bubbles travelling up towards the boat as if to cause trouble... Oh and did the other "barnacle cleaner" guy have the same hangups from his past as she did, or did the barnacle "inside" the boat just REALLY upset him??? It almost seems like they had this really elaborate ending to explain all and the writer either got fired or decided they are not paying me enough I'm nerf'n the end, see how they like that the cheap punks! Either way it was a good start that fizzled 3/4 of the way through...

Wait!! Thats not all!!

What the heck about the bilge pump??????? Is that like a metaphor for pumping our past problems into the ocean and leaving them behind???? It would have been easier to tell her "if your gonna sail around the world dont forget to leave your problems on land..." or something...

Weak film... gimmiky scares, terrible plot....

reply

I think they were trying to say that her moms "ghost" was hiding in the bilge and didnt get burned like the other "ghosts" did

reply

Buddy..you really miss creativity..

I can advise you one thing..take some LSD..or crack (heavy dosage) to see what is hallucinations.....I am not a propagator of drugs..but there are people who suffer terribly with hallucinations..there are people man..there are..

try to understand....

reply

I used to eat LSD like Candy and never saw any thing like this. Ha! It all seemed an 'Illusion', except the part at the end, where she seemingly set's her mother's 'spirit' free. But I only saw about the last 45 minutes. It doesn't seem to be as bad as most folk's on here are babbling about, but I am not gonna rush out and buy OR rent it anytime soon. It popped up on The Movie Channel and I like Rahda, especially in Pitch Black & Man On Fire.

At the end, I heard the announcer say it is a voyage of tragedy and triumph, as both her parents passed away during the voyage. It would explain quite a bit. Or did I hallucinate that? Did I hallucinate the rest of the movie?
I wonder if the cat, Taco I think, was killed too.

reply

maybe the captain was upset because he lost a man.......and the last thing he expected was to hear of another death...........you got to keep up with the details.....

reply

Well, I've just watched it, only having bought it for Dominic Purcell's presence.

Actually ... I liked it overall. You don't know if the visitors are real or not, and the suspense works pretty well, most of the time. The talking cat a la Salem or Garfield is a bit weird though.

And to be fair I'd just watched Silent Predators immediately before, and that was less fun than watching paint dry very, very, slowly, so anything would seem better by comparison.

But, yeah, I'd watch it again.
