I dont get it...

Firstly, there's the talking cat. Then the weirdo pirates. Then Gorgia's mother. What the heck is this movie supposed to be about? I'm sitting here, watching the Australian premiere...and thinking, HUH?? can somebody clear up on the sypnosis and explain it in plain English, please? And why, if this is a 2003 film, why is it premiering on Australian television in 2007?

Radha Mitchell's character, Georgia, is attempting to sail around the world solo. Although this is a physically challenging thing, her biggest problems are psychological, particularly dealing with solitude and cabin fever.

She is not permitted to have any people onboard during her voyage, otherwise she gets disqualified.
The only contact she is allowed is via radio, including daily contact with her boyfriend. Her boyfriend previously failed his own attempt at circumnavigating the globe and she suspects he is cheating on her with one of the sponsors of her trip.

The bulk of the film consists of flashbacks and Georgia battling her hallucinations. The flashbacks deal mainly with her family particularly:
- her father who became invalid and impotent when Georgia was young because of an accident where he saved her life
- her mother who is suicidal and depressed because of a lot of stuff I can't remember but she was really upset that her husband was impotent

A lot of her hallucinations deal with the spirit of her mother and Asian pirates. The cat onboard also talks in her hallucinations.

it's funny the "asian" pirates spoke spanish.

The cat is her talking to herself, what she is thinking (or fearing) the cat says, I've been there. :o)

Great movie, she should have won that award.

Maybe the character knows Spanish & not any Asian languages. After all, it's all in her head.

Pretty good flick, though I found the very end somewhat off-puttingly upbeat. I'd have pretty something horrific. Oh, well.
