The ending was nonsense

The whole movie builds up to the moment where you figure getting off this boat is the most important thing for this woman to do. She finally makes it back to Sydney harbor and what does she do? She has a last hallucination with this nonsense revelation with angelic imagery followed up by a happy triumphant pop music soundtrack. She dumps both her husband and her sponsor and heads right back out into sea.

Throughout the whole movie I figure by the end of it, if she doesn’t want to get off that boat that means she’s given into her madness, and that’s exactly what happens. But instead of it being a tragedy, it’s this ‘Grrl Power’ of her going “Screw you all!” and heading out on her own.

Really? Where’s money going to come from to support this new found independence? Who’s going to pay for the docking fees when you get to New Zealand? What the hell happened to all the supplies you used up during your trip? This ending is as every bit as mad as though someone stripped off all their clothes and ran out into the wilderness saying God will provide. I think the director did film it as a tragedy of a woman giving into her madness but somewhere along the way the producers interfered with the film and altered the soundtrack to make it look like a man-bashing girl-power triumph instead of a nuthouse going off the edge.

I agree. I am not against positive endings, but the ending of this movie was beyond ridiculous. It seemed like the director/producer of the movie was a Britney Spears fan who argued that: "we absolutely have to have some Britney Spears music in this movie, and if we can't get an actual Britney Spears song, then let's have some cheaper clone".
