recommend any other movies like this one?

I love love love this movie. Mostly because its underlying outlooks on life and how it makes you think beneath the surface. I love movies that do that. I havnt found very many.

Does anyone have any recommendations of more movies like this?

i recommend anything with ryan gosling....like half-nelson or lars and the real girl. but thats just me

reply

Yeah like The Believer...

Half Nelson with Gosling has kinda similar atmosphere, but different theme.

But if you really want almost identical film about teenage killer watch Paranoid Park, but I found USL more entertaining, PP was quite boring, maybe it would work as short movie more.

I really like all those that were already named in this thread, and sort of similar to them (but totally different from each other) are also
Down in the Valley (2005) with Edward Norton, or
Thumbsucker (2005) with Lou Taylor Pucci. There's much more, but my head is hollow.

I would recommend The Lookout with Joseph Gordon Levitt. It was a brilliant film about a young man who causes death and has to live with it. Brilliant movie, just like this one with an equally impressive young actor.

You might lose with me, but you will never win without me!

Definitely "Elephant", it leaves you feeling the same way as its based on similar themes.
"Girl Interrupted", thats brilliant when it comes to states of mind.

The MTV movie "wasted" left me with very similar emotions.

Wasted is a good call. Also mean creek (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0377091/) was somewhat similar. Just re-watched that and was surprised by how much it reminded me of USL (in terms of learning sorrow/similar buddhist belief ideas spread throughout the movie...)

Donnie Darko

what he said...Chumscrubber is one of my fav movies.

reply

Ya, I feel this movie and Chubscrubber where made under the heavy heavy influence of Donnie Darko, both of them are good, but Donnie Darko is the best.

It's the puppets dream, being human.

reply

You could add Imaginary Heroes to the mix. I would say Donnie Darko is the most similar, minus the trippy time travel.
