this film just does not work. it has no idea what point it is trying to make. It just wants to be deep. and its about as deep as a puddle. a lot of its filler. Gosling is terrile. he spends the whole movie looking confused and kind of sad. and Jena Malone does what she does in pretty much ever movie she is in. its no good.
i told you not to stop the boat. Now lets go. Apocaylpse Now
The film is about a man suffering form a mental illness. Gosling is doing a great job portraying this.

He is confused and sad. That is the whole film. And the people in his life that he affects.
But by your comment I assume you weren't really watching. I belive you have no idea what point this movie is trying to make. But it's ok, it's clearly not for everyone.
I suggest you go back to watching Scream or some other mindblowing film.

It's not about "sounding smart", it's about the film. Leland has a form of autism. That's why he behaves the way he does. If you don't understand the basic groundwork of the film, then maybe it isn't for you.
If you feel that over-acting, every minute exposition and way to many unnecessary sub-plots make a film great. Then enjoy scream.
I must be emotionally constipated, since I just don't give sh*t what you or any critic think.
Sometimes people hate movies when there are no superheroes or an abundance of CGI. Its what they like. Its what they're used to. Excellent performances and thoughtful writing goes over their heads like a fast cloud. It means nothing to them. That's alright. There will always be a lot of movies for them to see and love.
But for those who love film and the performances of fine artists, movies like this will serve to move us and make us appreciate the standard that the many of us enjoy.
Kay: Senators and presidents don't have men killed. Michael: Oh, who's being naive, Kay?
