the ending (SPOILER)

When François shot Yan in the end I couldn't help being reminded of the ending of "Of Mice and Men". Basically, the good guy shot his mental friend to prevent him from being killed mercilessly from the others or to save him from a mental institution.

Anyone felt the same?
