Audience Reaction Shots RUINED this special - awful directing

This would have been a great final concert special for MJ. Problem was the directing, and for one key reason. TOO MANY audience reaction shots.

Literally every 5 seconds they crosscut to another audience reaction shot. (Not to mention they just happened to cut to the most annoying audience members.) It totally killed whatever moment could have been established.

The point of a televised concert is to see the THEATRICS of the performance. What entertainment is there any cutting to the audience? Just look at the Motown 25 video where MJ moonwalks. How many audience reaction shots did they have? Like 2! and at very appropriate times.

This was garbage. Thanks Bruce Gowers, you ruined everything. ;)

And not only that, but it was always the same dozen audience members to boot. Yeah, that was annoying.

But even worse was his covering his mouth for 90% of the time he was singing, or, what he was trying to cover up - lip synching. Could he make it any more obvious? How friggin' lame.

I recorded this on VHS, and I just watched it recently. That was my main complaint-too much cutting to the audience. And yes, it was the same people repeatedly. Why did the director think that we wanted to tune in to see audience members? I could have watched some reality TV!

I noticed they kept cutting to that faux band O-Town in the audience several times. That dates this show so heavily.

I agree. Who cared about the audience? If I wanted to see average folks, I'd have walked out my door instead of trying to watch the special. Switched this off because of the audience.
