God Grew Tired of Us (2004) and The Lost Boys of Sudan (2003)

Is God Grew Tired of Us an updated or re-edited version of The Lost Boys of Sudan (2003)?

reply

This is a different doc. The term, Lost Boys, is simply the general term used for the many boys in Sudan.

Both films are very similar though... I guess it illustrates the essence of star power (Brad Pitt and Nicole Kidman).

Has anyone read the award winning book about the Lost Boys called "The Journey of the Lost Boys?" It tells about their incredible journey to freedom beginning with them as children in their villages of Southern Sudan up until their arrivals as young men to the US. It has a lot of heartbreaking accounts and very funny stories about their experiences.See link below. Please tell me what you think about it. 50% of the profits from the sale of the book will benefit the people of Southern Sudan.

I just watched The Lost Boys of Sudan (2003) on DVD. I suspect it is a bit darker than God Grew Tired of Us (2004), though I haven't seen the latter film yet.

"The Lost Boys of Sudan" was the name given to all the boys who became separated from their parents or orphaned during the civil war between the North and South of Sudan.

As pointed out, the boys orphaned during the civil war were called that. Not the same. Though quite similar and both moving. I really wish Hollywood would pay more attention to flicks/docus like this and use the PR machine a bit better when it comes to stories like this because in my opinion, stories like this need to be told and known. I know it's a documentary but it hardly got the attention it deserved.

I just finished lost boys of Sudan(2003). It's quite different that what I expected, I was expecting something darker and thought it was the journey before they made it to the US. Nonetheless, it's a top notch documentary, very raw and real.

It was interesting that many in the refugee camps think of the US as the heaven on earth and found themselves struggling to fit in.

For those who have seen both, which documentary you like better?
