6th graders?

I haven't seen this movie yet. But I'm thinking about renting it. Does anyone who has seen it think it is suitable for a group of 6th graders?

reply

I just finished watching this movie and I am thinking of having my oldest son (who's also in the 6th grade) watch it too. It may be a little long for the attention spans of kids in that age group, but other than that, I think it is appropriate. The most graphic images were of some of the emaciated bodies of the boys when they made it to Kenya, but other than that, there weren't any scenes that stood out as visually disturbing. Overall I think it would be good for them to watch.

I just wish the movie was required viewing for those spoiled, entitled, greedy brats on MTVs My Super Sweet 16 reality show. Then they'll really see what's worth whining about.

Maybe they'd be a little appreciative of what they take for granted.

I agree, I think this movie is not only suitable but should be required. Devans makes a good observation. After finishing the movie, juxtaposing the feelings and messages you are left with against the vapid, superficiality of MTV- it nearly makes you ill. This movie takes your your current perception of life and injects a large dose of what real life is for millions. It's eye opening and humbling. It's something I wish I could keep in the back of my head at all times because it's so easy to slide back into what our society deems to be important and worthy of our attention, time and resources.

It should be watched by sixth graders. But you must watch it with them and see when they might question something, need to ask you why people starved, why no one helped the Sudanese lost boys. You might not have answers to the questions but you can help the watchers understand that this actually happened, it is not "reality TV," and that you will talk about it with them, even though you don't have answers to many of the things that were in the movie.

This was an amazing film. Profound.

I know this is an older post but if anyone needs to know, I had my eight year old daughter watch this movi. I had to read some of the text and explain some things along the way, but it definetely kept her attention. This movie is a must see for kids in my opinion.
