Anyone else agree?SPOILER

For two people that loved each other so much and were willing to destroy so much, they didn't really go to great lengths to stay together. Dinah was betraying her own sister while Rickie was destroying his wife and son. The repercussions were so tragic yet they continued with their love affair. With that said, why the hell did they try so little to STAY together. Dinah was told not to visit Rickie in the hospital, her reaction was mute. Why did Dinah agree so easily? Rickie was told Dinah went to France and he tried to phone......once!! Once they were reunited and they figured out they were lied to, why didn't they run to each other?? I liked the movie, but their behavior, or yet their lack of determination was completely asinine to me and didn't fit with the rest of the movie. Anyone else agree?

I had the same feeling after watching this movie. They could have handled this twist of plot better. Overall it's a fine movie.

Didn't Rickie say he tried to call a few times?

I have to agree that it is a weak point in the plot but they did make it as believable as possible I thought.

Well there were several things conspiring to make their relationship impossible: scandal, the conspiracy when Ricky was ill in hospital to prevent he and Dinah from seeing one another by doctor, mother and wife, plus, the emotional limitations of many of the characters. At important points in their relationship they pushed one another away or as with his hospital incarceration couldn't pull together.

You are absolutely right! It didn't make sense that all that supposed passion would just vanish by something a third person said. Shows that there was no real faith for each other's feelings.
And while at first that seemed to me like a weakness in the script, when later they were together for the last time in the taxi and they were looking away (I know that was making it easier for them to separate but also) I felt like they were a bit ashamed and remorseful for that lack of faith they showed.
So even though it might not have been the intention of the author (haven't read the novel) or the director, that little detail tied it up nicely for me and made the separation more believable.
