The most depressing movie I have ever seen...

This movie is sooo sad! OMG...there was not a single happy moment in it!

...the last few frames, perhaps?

I was thinking of an illicit affair in England in the 40's. One of the lovers dies. I like the clothes, the hairstyles, the jewelry in those films. Watching one film reminds me of the other.

I'm sorry - I haven't got the hang of reply/thread/nest etc.

What I meant (re. the original post) was that the last few frames of the movie were optimistic and gave hope of happiness for the two sisters, and Clarissa.

I agree they were reconcilling. It appeared tho they still kept a couple of secrets from each other. One, that Dinah had borne Rickey's stillborn child and two, that Clarissa was the result of Madeleine's rape by her husband.

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed the film, despite its sadness.

I agree w/ pshelton-1.

Ricky and Dinah were happy when they were together, remember the scenes of them at the park; reading poetry and flying the kite? It seems as though that may have been one of the happiest days of his life, since he was recalling it the day he was killed. And, when they lived together briefly, they seemed very happy, content to just be together (and pretty much in social exile) w/o all the "bells and whistles" that Madaline found so important, IMO. ~Cat

Yes, yes, these were some happy moments....and it made it even more heart breaking when you saw Rickie think about those and smile in the end, when you just knew it was all over.

But I was wondering...even though Rickie and Dinah seemed so happy together...there must have always been that lingering guilt and pressure. His doctor did tell him he had to take it slow and relax (thinking the stress was work related.)

I think it was right and proper that they kept those secrets from each other. They should take them to their graves. Not everything needs to be told. They've both suffered enough already.

I thought it was very depressing as well. It started out good then rapidly went downhill. Ricky was such a wimp.
