the mentally challenged kid (spoiler)

So the narrator is Marina, many years later. The mentally challenged kid is her and Vatchel's son, right? He's not all there because of the dose of X-rays to Vatchel's groin, right? Probably the most subtle plot element (that I noticed) in the movie.
