I always get hungry watching this series..all the food and the sound they make when eating!

Yes. The dinner for the Chinese Emperor is one of the cinema's great food orgies, isn't it? (It makes me slightly nauseous rather than hungry.) And, of course, symbolic of how these aristocrats are "digging in" to Melmotte's false promises of endless wealth.

Yes the greed for more wealth upon more wealth was conveyed very well at this meal. And the whole time you could see it in Melmotte's face while watching them eat that he was preparing them like lambs to the slaughter. His following speech was perfection.
