loved the movie but why the comparision?

i loved this movie but i dont see how its so often getting compared to charlies angels when the only real similarity is the fact that they are females and (originally) there were 3 of them.
please tell me your views on why its similar
(although i have to admit when i looked at the cover i thought it was going to be like charlies angels but after watching it i didnt)

No, it's not like Charlie's Angels as two of the girls are villians and one is a cop. I think it just is three girls kicking butt that brings up the comparison. Only difference is So Close is not as comic bookish like Charlie's Angels.

yea i got all that before but almost every review says its the asian charlies angels. but i think the heroic trio is easyly more comparable than this

It's called suspension of disbelief. And I enjoyed So Close a heck of a lot more than Charlie's Angels.

Maybe it's partly beacause of the title.
The title in Chinese means "angels of sunset", or "angels at sunset" or something... It means these three are angels, too, perhaps.

Yeah, the connection to Charlie's Angels is simply because of the 3 female leads in an kick-butt action film. The original release title was going to be "Twilight Angels" (similar to the original Chinese translations accurately given by amyvivianjame) so that evoked a lot of the comparison too. The comparison begins and ends with the marketing though. The films themselves and the way the women are portrayed are very different.

mm, interesting. how in the worldid this movie gethe title "So Close" in English if it means "Angels of/at Sunset" in Chinese? i liked this movie too and don't see the comparisons to Charlie's Angels and other American girl-gun flicks. i have no movie to compare this to. maybe something like Chuen Jik Sat Sau (Fulltime Killer) ~ or does thatranslate into something totally different from 'Fulltime Killer'?

It's not just three girls who kick ass - that could be a historical film (Joan of Arc, Boudicea), a superhero film (an X-Men spinoff with Storm, Rogue and Kitty Pride), it could be Tomb Raider 3 with Lara Croft and her two sisters. So Close is an action adventure, with humour, about three girls who FIGHT CRIME in the modern day - just like Charlie's Angels.

They werent fighting crime, they were creating it.

Dig It, you mailed it on the head Wiccan...... they werent fighting crime they "WERE" crime lol, Anyway I wasnt really going to watch this as I already have a feeling that its gonna be pretty boring except for the furious finish but I DID enjoy Charlies Angels I a sorry to admit that in a way but I really did and so I figure if I can waste time on that and all of you found this interesting enough Ill drive it around the block once just to see how it handles I guess!

I think another reason is because the cinematography is somewhat similar. It's heavily stylized with a lot of quick changes in time-speed (like we'll have three sped up shots followed by a longer slow-motion reaction shot).
True, this movie, while still more style than anything else, did feel more 'controlled' in this aspect than Charlie's Angels did - that was done by a young director, and while not bad, it does show.
