Continuity/Spoiler

I'm sure Michael Crichton is guilty of this too, but if François died and Marek stayed in 1357 Castleguard, wouldn't they cease to exist to Chris, Kate, Professor Johnston and the rest of the team? Essentially their modern timelines would have been deleted and therefor the archaeology team wouldn't have known who they were or the significance of the sarcophagus. Amirite?

How do their modern timelines cease to exist? Their ancestors still lived since their actions presumably had no effect on that. Francois and Marek were not born in the 14th century, and they could not have been able to die during that time if they'd never been born. And we know they didn't simply disappear since the team found evidence of Marek's continued life at the dig site. It's not like they went back and killed their younger selves.

All time travel stories have these sorts of problems. Timey-wimey stuff, as Dr. Who says.
