Great underwater filming

Not a memorable movie by any means, except it had some of the most beautiful and realistic underwater filming I've ever seen.

Don't bother telling me that I haven't seen such-and-such movie, because I probably haven't because I don't like surfer films.

But in the ones I've seen, all the underwater stuff looks identical, and man-made, and pointless. Like it's thrown in just to prove it's a surfer film.

But this IMHO was great.

I agree with you, it was great!

I agree. This movie came out the same time as another surfing movie came out and that was a documentary called "Step Into Liquid" (check it out ig you liked BLUE CRUSH) and while that doc had great underwater footage...BLUE CRUSH's footage was by far superior. Again, not memorable, but the footage of the water curling and splashing all around was just INCREDIBLE in Blue Crush!!!!

Phenomenal underwater footage, and great use of the subwoofer on those shots.

Now if only they used penguins instead of girls...

Highly reocmmend this one as well...

Globe Presents: NEW EMISSIONS OF LIGHT & SOUND, "The Dark Side of The Machine"

The footage is amazing, all to the soundtrack of legendary DJ artist, Sasha (of Sasha and Digweed, Global Underground, etc). Amazing soundtrack.

There's a reason the underwater and in-the-surf footage looks the same in both films: it was shot by the same guy.

It was pretty awesome. I'm looking to take surfing lessons, and it was cool to see all of that stuff from a surfer's perspective without being able to get into the water yet. I'm ordering the special edition, and it has a featurette on how they did all that camera-work. Should be interesting.

Definately get out there and take surfing lessons! I am way past the age to learn to surf any real waves, just keep me in the kiddie pool.

I didn't know that about the special edition featurette. It sounds like it's worth a look. Thanks for mentioning it!

Exactly, the underwater scenes were even better than the surfing scenes.

there was that one great scene where they're all training when kate is holding onto the rock running underwater while michelle rodriguez is holding on to her shoulders being dragged in the with the other girl holding onto michelle's ankles.

I found it a great movie to watch, but it sure was hard to listen to all that yacking. The synopsis says you can't miss getting great photography in Hawaii, but this was VERY well shot and the underwater parts were amazing. I've seen movies purely about surfing that weren't this artistically filmed.
