Girls are just as good as guys?
I love how the films message is basically "Girls can do anything boys can do", yet they used male surfer body doubles for Annemarie throughout the whole film. Lame.

shareYou're wrong two different ways:
--Virtually all the stunt surfing was done by women professional surfers. You can see them in the competitors section in the Pipe Masters shots. They have three of the best women surfers ever doubling for the three leads. You can look up the relevant names, I don't remember them offhand. They used a guy to double for Bosworth's character in one Pipeline shot. And frankly I don't know why they used a guy because the woman who doubled for Kate is one of the greatest women surfers in history and can surf Pipe with anyone.
--The message isn't that the girls can do anything the boys can do, it's that they can surf as well as the guys. There's a subtle difference. And, of course, one of the co-stars of the film is Keala Kennelly who is famouf for literally being able to do anything that any pro guy surfer can do, including surfing the biggest of the monster wave breaks.
Why don't you check the facts thoroughly before you slam?

Oh lord, buy a clue. They used a male double for ONE shot. In the rest of the surfing shots it was Rochelle Ballard doubling for Bosworth and other women pros doubling for Rodriguez and Sanoe Lake.
It's possible that they had to use a guy for that one shot to get a body that matched Bosworth for height, because she's model-tall and you can tell in a lot of the surfing shots that the noticeably shorter Ballard is doubling for Bosworth.
There is absolutely no reason to infer anything about the quality of women surfers from the fact that they used a male stunt double for ONE shot.
According to ESPN:
The most spectacular rides you see are really Ballard, with Bosworth's face digitally superimposed on Ballard's body. And when you see Anne Marie catch the biggest waves, you're probably seeing Bosworth's face on top of Noah Johnson's body. Johnson, a 5-foot-5 champ, surfed the Pipe for the cameras while wearing a wig and a bikini bottom. Both he and Skarratt had an eight-foot Pipe all to themselves for an hour. "But (Skarrat) ate it on a pretty big one," Johnson told Surfline.com. And then he was all by himself. "It was insane -- like a dream, almost."

The women in professional surfing are not as good as the men. Just watch a surf video and you will see what I mean.
And Keala is NOT famous for doing everything men can do. She is famous for surfing many of the same waves men surf, just not at the level they surf them.
And frankly I don't know why they used a guy because the woman who doubled for Kate is one of the greatest women surfers in history and can surf Pipe with anyone.
Are you sure? In the making of documentary they showed a lot of female surfers.
shareThat is NOT the message of the film.
The message is: chase your dreams. Don’t let where you come from get in your way (i.e. Ann Marie’s horrible mother.). Another message is: you can overcome your biggest fears with perseverance and support.
