Completely Different From The First One

I watched this last night, and I liked it fair enough, but i have to say that the way it was made, its like a completely different tone than the first one, im not sure what it is about it, but it just didn't feel like much of a 'sequel' to me it was like it was a whole new movie lol, less comedy, more action in it maybe? Im not sure but something was a lot different, anyone else agree?

I thought it was more comedy in this one and lighter in tone. Its not really a sequel in plot but in characters. This one is completely different story/adventure but with the same great guys.

I think they are both good. The first one is probably a stronger story, but this one has some absolutely hilarious jokes. the one-liners are fantastic.

I'd say it has a different tone than the first- this one seems lighter... a bit more "fun" in terms of jokes and action.

The first movie had a few scenes that were a bit on the "dark" side, and a bit of it was more "mature", whereas this is a more accessible movie, and has a slightly more "whimsical" feel, as the settings and "road trip" quality allowed for a wider range of misadventures. Ex. the first film was predominatly confined to the deserts and western towns, with bar-room brawls and classic duels serving as the backdrop for the action set-pieces.

This film has sequences in a New York hotel lobby, on a ship sailing the oceans, a market place, a wax museum, Big Ben, a barge, etc. It's a lot grander in scale, and combined with a lighter story, the tone just feels a little different.

I can't really pick which movie I like better, I think I like them both the same. Hopefully the third one will get made at some point, it was planned all along.

Yes I agree, actually, I saw this one before I ever seen the first one and thought sequels useally not so good as the first one so i set of to watch the first one as i liked Shangai Knights alot.
Pretty much dissapointed on the first one, not half as good as the sequel. One of those rare occasions where the sequel is better then the first.

I agree with you Lorddeseiz; I liked Shanghai Noon a lot, but Knights was just so perfect. The European setting really made the movie and I loved all the people they threw in, like Conan Doyle, etc. In this case the sequel was even better than the original.

I hadn't seen either "NOON" or "KNIGHTS" for quite a while, but yesterday actually caught the last hour of "KNIGHTS" on TV, and was thinking I cant believe the first one was as good as this one. Knights was just so entertaining with the Victorian theme going on, and you've just got to love old London, Big Ben etc.

But on IMDB Noon is supposedly better, but I disagree.

a far, FAR lighter tone. It's very much a cartoon, what with it's Loony Tunes sound effects/singin' in the rain dance sequence. i myself can't at all abide a much which at least partially wishes to be taken seriously, yet also commits that most cardinal rule of begetting the action with a veritable library of cartoon sounds. As soon as that hotel entrance sequence, i knew we were in very deep trouble. But that's just me! I'm a stickler for less childish pursuits.
