That scene with Singing in the Rain music was cringe worthy

Dont get me wrong, the fight scene was fairly decent, but the music, I mean why the hell is that music even there?? Because there`s an umbrella?...and an umbrella means rain?....and a fight scene is like...a dance scene?....in the rain?....

thats just stupid

I'm not even going to counter this with a conventional arguement, you didn't enjoy this, I did. If happiness is a measure of success then surely I have succeeded.

You should blame Jackie for this. He loves to pay homage to these old movies like Singing in the Rain. I'm 99% sure it was his idea.

I recall I enjoyed it, it was fun. Not his best fight scene, of course, and I can understand why you dislike it.

reply

Yes, it was kind of unnecessary, but Knights is still better than Noon.

reply

No point comparing them, they're so different in style.

reply

I didnt mind the scene of singing in the rain, but i do understand where the OP is coming from.
It kind of changed the tone of the scene, and instead of worrying they were going to get Jackie it made the scene less tense and more comedic which probably was inappropriate and unnecessary.

reply

I agree with your post fully, I see it in the same way.

The only fight that DID bother me was the revolving door fight. The set-up is dumb and badly acted, the fight itself isn't well done and totally unnecessary.

reply

So you didnt like the revolving door scene? I actually cant remember not liking that scene when i saw it if i remember correctly?
I liked all the cops chasing Jackie scenes as far as i know.

reply

For the first time, I was kind of okay with it. But it looked worse and worse every repeated viewing.

reply

Comparing a choreographed fight to a dance is incredibly common and dancing with an umbrella is pretty much impossible to do without thinking of Gene Kelly and since this wasn't a particularly serious fight I thought it worked very well and I loved it.

I actually thought that scene was incredibly creative and fun. I believe one reason it was in there is because Jackie is a huge fan of some of the old Hollywood dancing and singing legends.

reply

I love how the whole sequence ended with Owen Wilson coming back. "I call that my Kung Pow chicken, I clothes-lined the sucker."

reply

I liked it

reply

I agree. It was a bit silly.

reply

I thought it was charming and amusing. What is "cringe worthy" is the overuse of the word "cringe worthy"...

**this head movie makes my eyes rain...waaaaa **

As a much later response, the music cues such as the 1965 song England Swings when Jackie and Owen first arrive in London and the music during the revolving door fight reminiscent of the Keystone Cops from the 1920's showed that the filmmakers intended to have some fun with being around in the late 1800's and were not going for accuracy. Two more 60's songs, Winchester Cathedral and My Generation, were also used. So the Singing in the Rain melody in the fight was a brief tribute to that famous dance with Gene Kelly--used in a fight sequence that wasn't meant to be a death battle.
