I enjoyed this film and would like to see more like it.

"Ratcatcher" by the same director. Similar atmosphere of poverty, working class in Scotland, vernacular; and people trying to provide a little bit of security, cosiness and confidence for their children.

Somersault - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381429/

It's very similiar in style, atmosphere and performance, especially from Cornish in the lead role...she reminded me very much of Morton in MC.

I also recommend The Virgin Suicides and Last Life in the Universe as both have a detached and hypnotic feel about them.

The illusion of effortlessness requires a great effort indeed.

I was haunted similarly by these other films:

My Summer of Love
Boy's Don't Cry
The Dreamers
Somersault
Dancer in the Dark

Stealing Beauty because it's about the introspection of a young woman and it has an amazing soundtrack.

It's All Gone Pete Tong because it captures the rave club atmosphere as good as Morvern Callar did.

Jesus' Son because it's another beautiful movie starring Samantha Morton.

Very similar in tone to Andrea Arnold's 'Red Road'.

For anyone who is actually looking for something similar, the only films mentioned on thread that are actually similar are Red Road and Fish Tank.

Andrea Arnold's Oscar winning short "Wasp" is also worth a look.

Her films are just very similar in nature.

Also have a look at Brighton to London, although that has less of a fantasy element to it (Fish Tank does also to some respect) but also worth a look in terms of the origin of the narrative.

You’re so cool. You’re so cool. You’re so cool.
