Greatest Soundtrack Ever?

At the very least, most memorable.

I haven't seen this film in a couple of years, and oddly, I don't remember many of the details of the actual story, but the images that accompany some the songs are very vivid in my mind.

reply

I completely agree. Wonderful soundtrack.

Sadly, I have to say I haven´t been able to see the actual movie ( it´s really hard to find where I live ) but I read the book it is based on, and I remember the music on Morvern´s mixtape is really great.

The point of my post is to ask that; as I recall most of it, the music from the film´s soundtrack is not exactly the same as the music from the book, Is it ? And, do you know what are the differences between them ? I'd like to know cause the soundtrack ( or what I read on the details, for that matter ) seems really good too.

In any case; It would be great to try and get all the songs involved in both the film and the book to make one definitive mixtape for the story ( if there is such a thing ) Don't you think ?

Anyway, If anyone takes the time to read this " bit too long " post, doesn't get very confused by it ( english is not my first language, as you can probably guess by now ) and knows the answer, I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks .

p.s. for Peter-Steele :
I also hope you don't get too upset because I kind of "jumped in" your post, but I entered the site looking for that information and when I saw your post I just thought I was on the right track, so ...I'm sorry. I promise not to do it again.
Good Bye and Good Luck.

First off, you write perfect English, and I would have no idea it wasn't your first language unless you mentioned it. In fact, everytime someone like yourself writes or says that after speaking or writing perfect English, it makes Americans like myself feel really lazy for only knowing one language.

Can is the only band that makes it in both the book and the film. It's odd that out of all of the Can songs that are in the book, Ramsey finds a song for the film that wasn't in it.

Where are you from? You need to see this movie.

Thanks,Peter-Steele, for your reply and your comments, that is really nice of you.
The list is very useful and I´ll try my best to find the songs and create the so-called mixtape.
As for the movie, I Know I Definitely have to see it, so I´ll try to track it down on the art houses and " cinetecas " ( sorry I'm not sure how they are called in english, but they are this movie theaters that specialize in classic, independent, "cult" films , etc..., that aren't normally shown on big movie theater chains ) because sadly, renting it is not an option, since Blockbuster is just not what it used to.
By the way. I´m from México, and even though we get all the major hollywoood hits and a lot of interesting films from all over the world in some " Festivales " and " Muestras ", ( like Morelia and the Cineteca Nacional ) there are a lot of good films that still don't get enough distribution and are known only to some small groups of fans that have to make big efforts to find them. So, I guess I´ll have to start working really hard on it.

Again:
THANKS !!!
Good Bye And Good Luck

P.S: I almost forgot ! I had the feeling there was something from Kraftwerk also, Do you know anything about It ? I guess I could check the book again, but I may be wrong, So... Anyway, your answer helped me immensely.

reply

Anyone have an idea of what hard techno/house song is playing in the background of the dance club scene? Incidental music perhaps? It's not on the soundtrack...

Thanks!

reply

Definitely the most memorable soundtrack. I love it.

reply

what? Give over. I think to reverse the logic, in time-honoured imdb fashion, it's the worst. Learn how to use a piece of music, first. This was one track after another used in the most clumsy fashion. I think anyone who like this should be locked in a room and forced to watch all of Whit Stillman's films.

reply

Not totally sure what the track in the night club was, but I think it may have been something by Technohead. It sounds like some of their earlier stuff. Could be wrong though.

reply

Also in the film (noted in the end credits) but not listed on imdb:

303 Nation - "Double Speed Mayhem"
Taraf De Haldouks - "Cind Eram De '48"
Amor Juan Jose Sanchez Crus & Friends - "Cordevesa and Tangullo"
The Mamas and the Papas - "Dedicated to the One I Love"

reply

Yes, tied with Bernardo Bertolucci's Stealing Beauty and Richard Linklater's SubUrbia.

reply

What about the song when Morvern wakes up after her first night of partying, it sounds almost like a record skipping? Does anyone know the name of that song or at least what i'm talking about?

reply

I think it's Aphex Twin....haven't seen the film in ages, though...

reply

The music in itself is good but I found its hipness inappropriate for the film. OK, the dead boyfriend may have had good taste. But she goes to a party in Scotland and Holger Czukay is playing on the dance floor. Then she goes to a party at a cheesy tourist resort hotel in Spain, and whaddyaknow... it's Holger Czukay on the dance floor again. Highly unlikely.

reply

Hahah yeah that's true! A minor quibble though, really.

reply

Indeed, those are songs you do not hear so much on the radio or in films. It's an odd collection of strange music that give the movie a realy special mood! it works!

Not necessarily the way they happened"
