Just finsihed watcheing an evening with Kevin Smith and he talks about how Burtons ending to Planet of the Apes was just like a thing he had done in one of his comics. I wonder if he will say anythign, jokingly, about Burton ripping him off again cause he used Sweeny Todd in Jersey girl. I know it is a stretch but you guys know how Kevin Smith is I bet he says or has said something.
no, he isn't. he's making an entire film that's based on a play, a song of which is performed WITHIN jersey girl. that's a richard reed stretch!
also, of note, kevin smith, in a recent smodcast (check 'em out if you haven't!) mentioned about being very excited to see burton's movie, also declaring his inner homosexual for loving the "stage" so much. so...he himself doesn't think anything of it. and it's just as well.
The bit in Jersey Girl where Ollie takes Gracie to see Sweeney Todd comes from an event in Kevin's life where he took Harley to NYC, and told her to pick out a play to see, and she innocently picked Sweeney Todd, which is a bit macabre, as illustrated in the scene from the real musical that we see in JG. During the song "Johanna (Quartet)", Sweeney has 3 customers come through the shop, 2 of which meet their untimely deaths via Sweeney's razor. The fact that Tim Burton is now about to release an adaptation of Sondheim's musical is MERE COINCIDENCE!!!
