BEWARE THE 2011 ECHO RIDGE RELEASE

I love this film, I am not sure why so many felt the need to bash it. Did it have cliche's..well yea, did it have the ever annoying happy ending...yes, was completely different from Kevin Smith's earlier work...yes. But the film had great performances, funny jokes and just an overall good feel.
Anyway, his isn't a review, but a warning to those wanting to buy this on DVD. I brought the 2011 Echo Ridge release and was disappointed to see that it was a bare bones release, why is this, I'm not sure, perhaps it has to do with legal reasons, maybe Echo Ridge only had the rights to release it on DVD and none of the features, but still if you can find the 2004 release, I would say get that, you have two funny commentaries, features and deleted scenes. The way you can tell which is which(besides the back of the box if your ordering online)is that we see Kevin mith on the top left corner, the 2011 version doesn't have this.
SO BEWARE

Cool just picked the dvd up at a local used dvd store, glad I got the better one with the features and for only 2 bucks.

Echo Bridge ended up with the rights? That stinks. When Miramax closed shop, Lionsgate and Echo Bridge divided up the video rights between them. The titles that went to Lionsgate actually got decent treatment for the most part. EB, on the other hand, has a horrible reputation for bare-bones Blu-Ray and DVD releases that don't even port over the special features from previous releases.

Yeah, it makes no sense. I guess that means the Director's Cut Kevin Smith promised is not happening

reply

It's Echo BRIDGE, not Ridge and the recently released Blu-Ray has the special features. And Smith said he's going to release the director's cut for a 10th anniversary of the film which would be next year. I doubt it's happening, but we'll have to wait until next year to see.

Dragonzord! Mastodon! Pterodactyl! Triceratops! Saber Toothed Tiger! Tyrannosaurus!

I certainly HOPE that happens.. Hopefully they will re-release Dogma on blu-ray, its hard to find and finally release Mallrats as well..
