1. Because in order for the plot to work, Ollie had to be seen publicly bashing someone that the audience immediately recognized as being poised for stardom.
2. Because they had to get the buy-in of an actor who was popular and established enough that the bashing within the movie would have no chance of having an actual negative impact on his real life career.
