Was I the only person that liked this movie?

Seriously it was sweet, and it was funny.

And the little girl was so good in this. It was really cute, it might not have been a classic Kevin Smith movie but it was good.

Plus Will Smith's cameo was great, and I wasn't expecting it either.

Meh.

Yes you are right. This was sweet and funny. I loved Tyler. She is nice. bye I liked movie too.

I loved this movie too and Im a 35 year old male! My street-cred has finally gone out of the window!!. Kevin Smith, you never cease to amaze me. Ive put off watching this film since its release. No Jay, No Silent Bob, No Quick Stop, A romantic comedy and worst of all..... Jennifer Lopez!! No way, I thought! Then last night when I finally fought off these thoughts and popped the shiny disc into my DVD player.

Kev, you pulled it off again. Hats off to you.
Keep up the good work, I will never doubt you again and I apologise whole-heartedly for not paying to see this movie at the cinema.

I must say that I did not enjoy this movie. Yes I am a guy, but I don't mind the occasional chick flick. Ben Affleck was horrible in this. The scene with him crying over his wife, when the daughter was a baby, was very bad. Not convincing in the least. Then the scene just keeps going, and going. Yes, I understand that he is upset over the death of his wife, who wouldn't. But they could have done that a whole lot better. A movie that does this kind of emotion perfectly, and yet still adding plenty of humor throughout the film is Return to Me. This peticular one just didn't do it for me.

reply

Totally agree with njm on the baby monologue, was cringing all the way through that scene, praying for Affleck's dignity that it would come to a short, sharp ending. Shortly followed by the scene where his kid is exposing her whatsisname to the little boy, and he sits them down for a 'what is your intention with my daughter' talk. Nauseatingly derived and tiresome. Eugh!

How the mighty Smith has fallen with this one.

"I loved this movie too and Im a 35 year old male!"

Hell, I'm an 18 year old male and I liked it. Yes, I'm a big movie fan. No, I don't concern myself with a specific genre (e.g. "romantic comedy").

Jersey Girl isn't the best movie ever made, mind you, but I'll just go ahead and use what seems to be the latest cliche and say that it was "different." Wow. Can anyone just accept that?

Anyway, you're right. This is a good movie.

I also loved this film and I didnt think Ben was that terrible!!

The film was great, and it's underrated.

Chick flick i guess.

reply

Its not outstanding, but i liked it too! Liv was great and i thought Ben was too. People give him way too much flack. x

reply

I liked it. I think the main reason it tanked was most people were/are sick of Ben Afflect.

reply

Not at all!
We're LONG standing Kevin Smith fans and sure... love his "typical" stuff and I just loooooover Silent Bob.... but dissapointed because this movie was "different"? Hell No! More like delightfully surprised.

My husband was on a year long contract out of town when it came out on DVD and I decided to watch it, I had to call and warn him NOT to watch it until he came home. It was so hard on him being away, especially from our daughter, who is a real daddy's girl. I just knew he would not be able to handle seeing it while apart from us. When he did come home and watched it with us, he loved it too and quickly agreed that if he had seen it earlier, he might have just said "screw it" and walked out on the job. LOL

Anyway, yes we love the movie. It only cements the fact that Kevin is capable of many styles and depths, don't make the mistake of typecasting his abilities. It's a sweet, gentle sensative story that took a difficult subject and handled it with grace and humor. In few little ways, it reminds me of "Chasing Amy" in that it deals with real life issues, the fact that real life doesn't always give us the "happily ever after"... sometimes crap happens and life sucks... but you do what you have to do, make the best of it and move on.

I also agree that the little girl Rachel was outstanding... a great kid, I hope she continues in acting... she is adorable and impressive. I have always liked Liv Tyler so no big shock... Ben A is one that I sometimes like, sometimes don't... but I definately liked him in this, he did a good (and believable) job with his role. Carlin, what can you say about Carlin?? After his other appearances in Smith movies, this was a nice changeof pace to see him playing a "normal" person. I like his fathering style of kicking Ben in the butt when he needed it. LOL

Of course, Will Smith making that cameo was great and his comments on being a father now and all, even the gags poking fun at his own movies... really added a brillant touch.

The end result can only be "Yay Kevin, keep up the great work!"

cute movie, but overrall a real turd. kevin smith shouldn't be writing cheesy chick flicks. what make's kevin smith kevin smith is his edgey realistic dialogue. this movie is popcorn cheese all the way. the movie lacked charm, as it was evidently trying REAL hard to be exactly that. however, all the wannabe one liners fall flat on their face as you can't help but realize that the movie perhaps has the least charming cast of all time. even the little girl's over done cutsieness is grating on the nerves.

reply

people seem to hate this movie. not because its bad, but either because they hate ben affleck, love kevin smith, hate jennifer lopez or hate chick flicks.
i saw jay and silent bob. sure it was funny, but in a greater sense it was just crap. its a teen comedy and they generally suck even if they are a good watch.
dogma was good and it was clever. jersey was sweet and as far as i can tell from reading this stuff, its not at all like kevin smiths other stuff. so eveyone slags it off.

well i thought it was good.

I loved this film, my only critisism is that the relationship between Affleck and Tyler wasn't shown that much. However this film is primarily a father-daughter story and it does it very well, I too had put off watching this film too feeling that it would taint my love for Kevin Smith however i saw it in WHSmith for £7 so thought "What the hell... why not" and thought it was great even though on the back it said "Violence : None" err.... throat gets slit!

reply

I liked it.

reply

I liked it too, I loved the scene when Ben Affleck runs from his car all the way to the schoolm I thought that was really sweet. Did anybody else like that scene??

Kevin smith can do whatever the hell he wants, those are his movies, I thought the movie was great, im a fan of all his other movies. This is probably the best chick flick ever made and georgle carlin's performance was awesome. the REASON most people dont like this movie is beacuse none of the other characters from his other movies were not in this one. (i bet most of you dindt even give the movie a chance and are just on here talking s**t)

reply

A movie can be real without people saying f it and talking about cocks and fart jokes constatntly. Granted I love all of Smiths other films. But this was a good film, different from his usual fare but good. SThere are real people who don't talk like Jay Mewes, though there are real people who do talk like him. So the movie in my opinion wasn't a big bunch of chick flick cheese. I thought it was a good and worthy of much more praise than it was given due no doubt to Bennifer...

reply

I have no idea what's wrong with you people... I would never call this movie a romantic comedy or a chick flick! I'd call it a nice drama with some comedy, a deep insight in father/daughter relations, and breaking some serious ice with women having a little kid and a dead wife, hm?;)

and yes, I agree, it was nice to see JLo die in like 15mins of a movie:D

I have listed genuine reasons for not enjoying the film in one of my posts above, so your hypothesis doesn't hold true for me, at least.
