I just hope they pull this off...

I Capture the Castle is one of my favourite books, and obviously very difficult to translate through film. I didn't think it was released, but, according to reviews on IMDB, it appears it has. Could anyone tell me when it was released, and if it's any good?

I think it is released around 8th May. I'm looking forward to it, like you this is a real favourite book.

Perhaps the reviewer saw it at a film festival? The bit he didn't like, where Cassandra locks her father in the tower, I remember as rather far-fetched in the book too!

I really hope they don't screw this up. The book is fantastic and I hope they do Dodi Smith some justice. And another thing: I took a look at the kid that they cast as Stephen, and he is not how I imagined the real Stephen in the book. What about you? I love Stephen and how he was always in love with Cassandra and copied poetry for her. Sigh! Just the same, I hope the actor is good enough to pull off the role.

reply

Ah, the actor you speak of is Henry Cavill. Though I must admit I haven't yet seen the film myself (it isn't released here in the U.S. until July 11th, so I've read), I know for certain that he is incredibly talented and am confident in his abilities. ...however, I did see the romp-in-the-woods scene with Stephen and Cassandra, and it certainly looked good to me. ;)

I haven't read the book, but I just saw it and it's excellent. The acting, in particular, of the sisters. Go see it.

I just saw it and was impressed with how true to the book they were. I was worried that they would change the ending, and maybe make it happier and more 'filmy' but it was hardly changed at all. I also thought the casting was very good, and simon, neil, topaz, james and rose were exactly how I had imagined them.

I can't wait to see it. The stephen is not what I pictured though.

reply

Hmm, He is how I pictured him, and he is good as Stephen. But then it can't be hard to play gorgeous and dumb if you already have the gorgeous thing down.

Do you remember the name of the song Rose was trying to play on the harpsichord to endear herself to the two American guys....a Cole Porter tune?

I don't mean the later "You and the Night and the Music" that Cassandra and Simon dance to before their kiss.
Thanks.
