What year would this have been set in? I haven't watched the film but I've read the book and was wondering.

If I'm not mistaken it is set in the 1930s, couldn't tell you the exact year though.

actually i would say the 20's b/c no one had money in the 30's

All I know is that this film is set in the 1930s. A year is never mentioned.

my guess it that it would be early to mid 1930s
theres no mention of war which would leave me to believe its nothing after 1937

the book itself says in the 1930's

It was spring 1936. They mentioned that the rent had not been paid between June 1934 and March 1936. And they mentioned Midsummer Day near the time of the wedding, which is late June.
