They should have gotten an ugly guy to play Stephen

Cause no living female would pass on that gorgeous looking hunk of a man. I don't care how stupid he was, lol. Not saying Stephen was stupid but you would have to test the water at least once. Way too fine to pass on, lol.

Haha true. He is gorgeous. But he was also so kind and thoughtful and he really loved Cassandra. I would have been rooting for him even if he wasn't so good looking.

I love bringing guns to a knife fight

Even if I totally understood what Dodie Smith was trying to do...I still have to agree with the OP. LOL!!

Even in the book, Stephen was gorgeous. Although blonde, not dark like Henry Cavill. Still...how can a woman resist? LOL!

reply

Agree Selene. He was kind and thoughtful and he loved Cassie deeply.

Is it so hard to believe that a woman could simply not fall in love with a man, despite the fact that he seems perfect on paper? Coz that's what happened

i just finished watching the movie. i think her reason for not being able to fall in love with him was that she felt he's like a brother, a dear friend. she knew him for too long before any romance could have ensued. for some people it is like this - if there's a deep friendship that's all it will ever be. and she did try. she kinda had the hots for him, fantasized about him, kissed him, and even went a bit further - so she tried. and maybe it would've worked if there wasn't Simon. him being the first man ever kissing her spoiled everything. selfish bastard...

He is meant to be handsome, yet a bit naive, I think he was one of the actors, who fit the bill perfectly

I know that HC is going to play Superman and I checked out his page and I didn't see the big deal. Then I watched this tonight and I so changed my mind. He is fine!

Its hard to not fall in love with him in the books either. He's so adorable.

reply

I completely agree. The whole time I was watching their scenes together I kept saying "Come on! He's kind and beautiful..there's no way I would turn him down!" But I guess she already made up her mind. The scene with them in the woods was hot though! I wish it was me there :)

I love the Internet.

i agree i enjoyed cavill's character greatly and wanted their relationship to work but alas it wasn't meant to be. he was really the only pure character in the film and was clearly the most likeable. even cassandra, who i liked, playing the lead had moments of deceit.

henry really does have a kind presence on film and just a goodness to him that makes him very appealing. yes, he's handsome and all that but it's more a wholesome quality he has that goes beyond his looks. it's no surprise he's the next superman because he possesses traits that are innately decent and easily someone you wish to root for.
