Why R? Please help

Why is the film rated R?? I know it says brief nudity, but what exactly does that mean?

Go in with no expectations, come out with no disappointments.

There is nudity - full frontal of a female to be exact - but it is not in the context of a sexual scene between lovers. One of the characters is a nudist.

reply

yeah, just brief frontal partial nudity. to be honest it really seemed unnecessary but it really wasn't necessary to have anything worse than a PG-13.

reply

I think the MPAA claimed they saw a vagina in the shot.

There are breasts on the screen and the shot is for 3-5 seconds. I think the R comes from the length, b/c I know that you can show breasts in PG-13 . . .

I am not sure of all the rules but I don't see why the director/production company didn't just cut out/shorten the scene to get a better rating and get more people to watch this charming film. The Shot is not needed for plot.

Guys, there was more than one shot. When Topaz, the nudist, reveals her body in the rain, it is not FULL frontal; no sign of genitalia is seen. When the heroine, however, sunbathes naked later on, ironically her breasts are covered and her leg is up, covering her lower pelvis. However, underneath her lower leg, you can clearly see either part of her anus, or perennium, or something; a very personal part is clearly shown. That, I'm positive, was what the member of the MPAA thought was a vaginal part.

Agreed here. In PG13 they'll let all sorts of cleavage go by, but this sort of shot, breasts completely bared, with no sexual context, for several seconds (nothing really brief about that shot) will get the R rating automatically.

It means their clothes are off but not for very long.
