'Inspired By'

Hello

After the last several bad Highlander outings I was wondering something. How legal would it be to sort of 'reboot' the Immortals but in a different media - say novels for example, but tweak enough things that there would not be copyright infringement? Of course I mean no MacLeods, probably no quickening maybe and perhaps they become immortal a different way etc? We all have ideas on how this franchised failed and how we can make it better?

For example in the comics Superman has been copied numerous times with subtle changes - for example "Hyperion" in Squadron Supreme just as the Flash was the Blur and Wonder Woman was Power Princess etc.... so could it be done?

In the creation of the Immortals not only did Widen see a suit of armour somewhere and wonder if they person that used it was still alive, but he was also a fan of the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles and wondered what these characters were like if they were human Immortals instead of vampires and the concept of the Highlander was born. Also Forever Knight was "inspired by" The vampire chronicles which in turn inspired Angel which in turn inspired "Moonlight" and I'm quite sure Highlander inspired "New Amsterdam" in a way. And then you have Heroes which was inspired by other superhero stories.

I also have a roleplaying game called "Legacy: War of Ages" which is Highlander with different terms - they even keep the mentor, buzz, quickening and all that jazz and I don't think they got in trouble......

So what do you think?

Also is there anything out there similar to the Highlander Immortals you can draw my attention to (any format) except "New Amsterdam" and that horrible Lorenzo Lamos show.

Thanks.....
