ending? *spoiler*

I'm assuming the ending where the scientist flashes his unit and hagane wakes up is relatively meaningless.. but I may have missed something and it's bugging me. Did this mean anything or was it just to continue the tradition of Tomorowo Taguchi flashing people at odd moments in Miike movies (IE Shinjuku Triad Society)?

I had the same curiosity about why this ending happened. I mean, the movie makes a point throughtout the movie to show that the new improved yakuza has bigger "parts" but in the ending, it's the scientist that flashes the guy. What was the purpose or significance of that?

Its Miike, dont ask questions.. just enjoy (:

Exactly, if you have seen any of Miike's other films, you'll notice that almost all of them off very odd endings, but I have to say, the ending to this one had me cracking up for a quite a few minutes. Great movie by the way.

Yeah! I liked the movie as well.

Maybe the scientist made himself a cyborg. Maybe he remotely controlled Kensuke Hagane from time to time. In the middle of the movie scientist lets him find and kill everyone who killed Tosa. Quite effective technique.

I think he was some sort of cyborg himself, he used to buy deadbodies from them remember, maybe he wanted to be some kind of Yakuza leader himself and actually controlled Hagane all the way.
