Instead of killing Veronica, Velma could have disowned her

How can Velma kill her own sister? I know how it feels to learn that your own sibling is sleeping with your husband. Still, Velma could have severed all ties with Veronica telling Veronica not to see her ever again. How did Velma bring herself to kill her own sister?

Her character was 100% self serving. Once her sister was no longer any use to her, she was figuratively dead. Add that to burning rage and...

I'd pick my sister haha. Of course her and I have always had completly diffrent tastes in men anyway so no worry there anyway.

Velma is a hothead. She flew into a rage in a crime of passion. Rationality didn't quite come into her mind when the red mist came down.

I know this a bit insensitive but you do realize this a film right? That's like asking why Julia Roberts didn't go back to school instead of prostituting herself in 'Pretty Woman'. It's part of the story, it moves the plot along. If Velma just cut ties with her sister half the film would be missing. This is not plot that's asking for deep analysis.
Besides people kill each other in life all time, for much more trivial reasons.

Please consider me as an alternative to suicide

Velma probably never enrolled in therapy, and in the 20's psychology was quackery.

Velma didn't have to shoot Charlie and Veronica, but it was integral for the plot. She could have done many things, but in the "roaring 20's", it's not like it was uncommon to murder a cheating spouse.
