reference to 'R + J' in 'Vicar of Dibley'

We don't get "Richard and Judy" here in the States, so we were somewhat puzzled by the reference to "R & J" in the episode of "Vicar of Dibley" in which Hugo is describing how much he loves Alice. When he says "like Richard loves Judy" the Vicar's response indicates that R & J aren't really in love.

At least, that was our take on it.

Can anyone tell us what R & J are like? We have a program "Regis Philbin & Someone Else After Kathie Lee" that have two hosts who seem to like each other except for those times when they can't stand each other. Is this somewhat the same kind of show as "R & J?"

I wish our cable system had BBC America.

I'm also from the States, but I do know that unlike Regis and Kelly, Richard and Judy are married. But whether they are actually in love or not is another issue.
