Proof that 2D animation isn't dead.

Recently, the "Family Guy" TV show became the number 1 best-selling box set series of all time. They are returning to FOX with over 20 brand new episodes.

Personally, I can't imagine this show ever being 3D (except during the Tron spoof) but it wouldn't work as a live-action show either. 2D is the only format it would have ever worked in. Same deal with "The Simpsons" which is also the longest running comedy series.

So frankly, as long as the medium fits, 2D is never going to die. Think back to movies like "The Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast," and "Aladdin" and tell me if those movies would have ever worked as fully CGI features. There will be a comeback - the genre's simply overdue for a well-fitting script. And some good marketing.

In the next couple years, we'll be bombarded with nothing but CGI flicks. And judging from trailers on movies like "Chicken Little," "Delgo," and "Kaena," the grosses will definitely start to drop. Within the next decade or so, everything will even out hopefully.

~But hey - that's just me.~
