Did this movie almost kill 2D animation?

This was the last movie that Disney did in 2D prior to their abandonment of the medium, and it wasn't until The Princess and the Frog that they'd make another one. For 5 years, Disney abandoned the medium that their studio was built on, and many people blame this movie for it. I have not seen it so I have no opinion about it, but was it really that bad?

reply

I am currently watching it and oh god it's so bad.

reply

Yeah it was bad. The CEO of Disney at the time thought the reason why it tanked was because it was in 2D and canceled all hand-drawn films. He did not realize that people didn't want to see it because it was bad.

If Disney had made 2d movies during the 2000s as good, original and creative as what Pixar was doing, they would of had box office hits. Instead they were making movies based on hundred year old books that everyone pretty much knows about and crap like home on the brave.

reply

What do you mean "almost"? This movie DID kill the 2D medium, and created a permanent void sucking black hole in the 2D market. It's so bad, any 2D animated feature that comes after will be sucked into the pit of massive failure that was this movie.

reply

No, not at all. 2D is still alive and well to this day. As for this film, it's fine for what it is. I've never felt it deserved all the hate it gets.
